Is there any real difference between the pod and pod xt?

I would like to get one but dont know which to get.

Yes, PODxt sounds better. Anyway, if I was in your position I would wait for POD X3 that will be released very soon and is expected to sound way better.

Had a look at line 6 site, and by the looks version 3 is a free download update to the xt series.
