Live performance midi question

okay, so my band and I are thinking about adding samples to our live performances. now, I recently purchased the Alesis Control Pad USB/MIDI Percussion Pad Controller, and I was trying to see how exactally I would set that up for the samples. I'd be using a Macbook for the actual samples, but my question is how would I wire all of this. Controller -> Macbook -> DI Box -> PA

MIDI cable: Trigger pad -> MIDI cable -> Interface midi in -> DAW -> virtual instrument -> interface output -> DI-box -> FOH mixer -> PA
USB cable: Trigger pad -> USB cable -> DAW -> virtual instrument -> interface output -> DI-box -> FOH Mixer -> PA
