Early birthday present...one gallon homebrewing kit with ingredients for an all-grain maple porter. Early because this will give me time to look over the instructions, get any missing equipment, brew the beer and have it ready for my birthday.

Gonna be interesting, and with any luck it will also be tasty.

My ex-teacher's son has gone missing in Budva, Montenegro, and has been since 1st October. Police investigation has found his cell phone, wallet and shorts in a small channel of Budva's suburbs, and no further evidence.

It's weird. People go missing all the time, but although I did not know this man, I know his parents. It feels real awful when something like that happens to a person you know. The rest of the time you barely pay notice.
It's been more than half a month since he's gone missing, and I doubt he's alive, as much as I hope he is.

The Sofia metro has full mobile phone coverage + 3G internet for all three operators, as of last week. This, I guess, makes it one of the most modern in Europe. Up until recently there was mobile connection in the oldest line, but no internet and not even phone signal in the newer parts. It may not be the largest metro network, but having mobile phones and internet inside sure is nice :D

On the lookout for cyclone Christian, possibly the worst storm to hit UK since 1987. It will travel through Denmark and southern Sweden, and it will arrive in Finland on Tuesday. Right now the storm's path doesn't look that bad for us as the worst winds remain in the Gulf of Finland, but the southern coast may experience some damage from strong wind gusts. The Swedish island of Gotland and Estonia are likely to get battered pretty bad though...

Just got escorted from my classroom by the police.

Nothing too alarming. The new president of the University is the former head of Homeland Security and there was a group of students protesting at her campus visit. The local PoPo got all nervous at the sight of a few dozen students acting like they might start thinking for themselves and took over the building, kept students from coming into the building for their classes and made sure that when we left the classroom we were in that we were only allowed a single path of exit from the building and that we did not try to go anywhere but out and away from the disruption.

Our campus cops always look like they are wishing for a fascist takeover just so they can show the students what they really think of them. The smallest disturbance and they are there with riot shields and pepper spray. (Well, not today, because they did not want to be caught on camera looking like thugs, but for any local campus disturbance with no press, you can bet they are there in full riot gear just daring the students to act up).

Mad. Not surprised, but mad.

:err:

So the next school shooting is going to be in this city ________?

The kids don't get it, anger at 13 = a gun and using it.

WTF o_O:bah:

Not the problem at my university. Here it's too many conformists and not enough anger, and the campus cops are the thugs itching to 'speak power to truth' and put a boot on a privileged kid's back.

Our radicals would be moderates most places, but the campus administration treats them as if they were Bader Meinhoff because the administration cannot stand to have their public image damaged.

I am not particularly freaked out. Yet. Though, of course, I am quite pissed off and insulted by this whole thing. They'll pay me two months' worth of salaries (the minimum sum required by law), I do have a small side income, I could get some unemployment money and I own the apartment I live in, so it's not catastrophic - will not freeze to death in the streets and will not starve, but I do need to find another job, asap. Made some phone calls and sent out some CVs, so hopefully I'll have something set up fairly soon, or there will be no presents for Christmas.
Maybe it's for the better. One thing's for certain - life's too short and there is no point in getting depressed. It's not fun, but could happen to anyone, really, and there're a lot worse things in life.

I was an editor in a business magazine. They shut down the magazine. Happens all the time in the media, but I am still a bit shell shocked.

Höh :(
This kind of news is now everywhere. I hope you find something new, something you like about.

The situation has brightened up a bit. Started a part-time job and will go to an interview for a full-time position today.
Maybe that layoff was for the better, after all :)

Late may snow cumilative to snow right now made a short growing season for all landscaping aspects. Linder's (plant nursery) had been here since 1914 and they are calling it quits. Hooraay for everthing!

Is there a turd smiley cause I need to use it.

Shitty year, I need to find a new job too. Getting tired of the bullshit and crap. Thanks, mother nature. I know it's not your fault (or mine, I try) but global warming is starting to piss me off. If I try to help you, can you help me? If not, I'll just get a job that pisses you off and then you can destroy me later with floods, snow, hail, earthquake, or just a simple tornado would be perfect right about now. I'm tired of waiting. Just do it and get it over with.

Probably get a job shoveling shit for 5 bucks an hour because I don't have the "proven experience" that hundreds of people are applying for other jobs, which they have.

I can do stuff, just not on my lifetime resume with WTF requirements.

So I went to a music shop to get some tix for a gig tomorrow, and among some stuff in the shop I find an old issue of a certain, last normal metalzine in Serbia, which has, unfortunately, shut down. The zine's front cover features Tomi J and the issue is "dedicated" to Amo's then upcoming 20th anniversary. Instant buy.

Today's protests in Sofia...
"Darling, on your lunch break, please buy leeks and toilet paper"
