LOL Prince of persia

Well, I find black humor funny. Not everyone does, I accept that. Finding black humor funny does not mean I'm out to kill cripples or black people or whatever. I respect pretty much everyone with a few reservations.

Well the difference is, that for example Cannibal Corpse album covers (while being hilariously violent) are not political. And the fact that more people are doing it wrong wouldn't justify it.

I'm sure (as sure as one can be on the net) that Illidan is "only" provocating or trying to be funny, a tr00 BLAKMETALS REBEL or whatever and is not racist but I'm even sick and tired of said unnecessary behaviour, because we have enough of the real assholes already.

IMO it's as tasteful as making up news about a suicide of a bandmember on the official message board.
You can take it lightly but everyone would be better off without it. And don't get me wrong, I'm not against making fun of dictators!
I'd second that.

Ok, let's go off topic.

Don't understand why people thought Heir Apparent was a bad name. It's an expression, isn't it? And it sounds good too. :p

Oh, and there's another game called "Damnation", don't think it's out yet.

What's tasteful and not is subjective. Really, I'm not here to defend Illidan or his intentions. I don't know what he's up to and frankly do not care so much. But in my opinion jumping from disliking an avatar quite probably intended as a joke (distasteful to some, tasteful to others) to judging a person racist is quite a leap.

I think this is quite a serious problem. This "political correctness" stuff is being taken to an extreme level. You can't even call black and white "black and white" anymore, because people will start pretending they are hurt. I saw this quote somewhere that was quite funny. It went along the lines of "You can't call dinosaurs dinosaurs anymore, because it's speciest to do so. You have to call them pre-human species." I used to study air law. They call handicapped people in wheelchairs "People with Reduced Mobility". Don't you think that's taking it too far? In 5 years time they'll invent some new euphemism after they're sued by someone who pretends he's hurt with this term. Not to mention the ridiculous lawsuits being spewed back and forth in the US.

Don't take me wrong. I don't condone disrespecting people by putting them at a disadvantage. But Jesus Christ, saying a joke among friends that involves a human stereotype is not racist. I'd expect people to do the same with my stereotype (if I fall in one) or my country. I don't really care, because I joke about certain aspects of me all the time with friends. Of course, you can only take it so far, but the difference between amicable leg-pulling and outright hatred is pretty obvious.

If you tolerate Stalin, you tolerate Hitler, end of story.

+1

So, basically.... +2.

I agree with everything you have said, political correctness IS going to far, and judging someone racist by their avatar is ridiculous.

However (and I'm not sure how to put this), putting up an avatar of a man who killed thousands of people, (and subtitling it Uncle Adolf/Joseph, hence possibly showing respect/warmth/whatever) was always extremely likely to offend people, both before the political correctness pandemic and after.

I realise it was joke, as I'm sure almost everyone else here did too, but I can't say I'm suprised that the issue was raised. It's still in recent history, and as such, is extremely likely to offend someone.

I hope that made sense, and I'm sorry for rambling :)

:OMG::OMG::OMG:

meh, the opeth song is called "THE lotus eater" not Lotus eater, there might be other bands who have made a song called lotus eater

I don't tolerate Hitler AND Stalin.
I think I'm just more familiar with Hitler and the german history because I live there, than I am with Russia. I thought that avatar was some kind of general but didn't recognize him as Stalin. My fault. Hell, it's difficult because almost every nation has blood on its hands but I know exactely that Hitler is only about hate, racism and a totalitarian system so it's baaad and something completely different than the mere "political corectness" discussion. It's something especially we Germans are entitled to prevent to happen another time and people promoting his face is just one of the small things that you can let happen.
Ah well, I could care less...
