Hey Guys,

I posted this question elsewhere but didnt get an answer... so I figured i'd test it out in here.

I own an SM57 & and AKG Perception 200 but would like to try out other mics to record my guitar. What would you guys suggest I try? I was told to check out the AT2020 and Audix I5... anything else? If possible, in order of your first choice to your last. I've got a budget of about $100 to $200

Thanks for your help!

Joe

Hey LSD,

So you suggest the E906 over the I5 and AT2020 or something to add to the list of
choices?

no, not really...but you've already mentioned the i5 and I thought you just wanted some otions.

but yes if you've got a 57 already I'd probably go with the 906...doesn't beat a 57 though...but what does? ;)

I'd save up a bit and get a md421 to go with the 57

I've not been terribly fond of my i5 so far, though I haven't had much chance to use it - try the 906 or the Audio Technica ATM 650 (I have one in the mail, and there's currently a big rebate available!). I got it after reading praise for it in an older thread on here (I link to it in the thread I started, "You were right Dave")

On the topic of the 421, does anyone know the difference between all the different variants? A search on ebay comes up with so many freakin' options (specifically the U-5 and MD421 II compared to the regular 421, the others are all more expensive variants, and that's definitely NOT what I have in mind! :ill: )

The older model had DIN connector and you had to use an XLR adapter with it, the new model has an XLR connector on it.

Wait, seriously? That's retarded, why would they do that? Thanks for the info though man, any idea about the U-5?

I got two of the most recent version of the md421's, had an older one too, sound a bit different, not bad my any means, just not as full as the new mics..

I liked it mixed with the sm57

last time i tried a sennheiser E604 (yes, the small tom mic) on a guitarcab, sounded suprisingly good too :)
