T-bone RB500
T-bone RB100
T-bone RM700
T-bone MM-1 x2
T-bone SC140 x2
T-bone MB-75

All these mics are fkn cheap! I tried a RB500 on guitar once and didn't like it even with foam removed. But I wanted to buy one RB100 or RM700 they seem to be pretty decent. What do you use them for and how do they sound to you?

My mics:
Shure SM7B
Shure SM57 x2
Sennheiser MD421 I (grey)
Oktava MK012
Joe Meek JM37 DP x2

At my disposal:
Shure KSM137 x2
Shure SM81 x2
Shure SM81
Shure SM7B x2
Shure Beta 52
Shure SM57 x7
Rode NT1A x3
Rode NT1000
Brauner Panthera

I use a lot NT1s for drum room and sometimes SM81. I used many times Panthera as mono room mic and it worked nice. I just received my JM37 DPs, so I will try them as well next time.

I'm interested to see what people are using on drum rooms?

All my ribbon mics are always used as room mics. The only problem I have with them on guitar cabinets is that you need to dial the tone in them so you don't get a super boomy tone but the Apex 205 and the RB500 can be pretty cool when everything else fail. I don't really like the RB100 (too dark) and Rm700 (too harsh) on guitar cabinet but once again they are great as drum room mics.

I only used the MM-1's as room mics once and never bothered again. They sound ugly. I suspect they would be cool in a very diffused spot though.

I used to use the sc140 on hats and ride where they did a decent enough job. I wouldn't use them as Overhead unless I have no other choice though. They have the typical cheap Chinese harsh top end.
I used one as a second top mic once. It was really cool actually.

I use the MB75 as talk back cause it sounds horrible.

The RB500 is cheap and I used a modified set in August. They had new transformers, new ribbons etc, so I'm not sure how much of the original mic was left. I'll maybe drop the guy an email and ask.

The mods are cheap and fairly easy though. Did you do anything to yours Burny?

Anyone built any of the U67/87 DIY kits out there? Easy/good? I'm pretty good with a soldering iron and I've been looking for a good project to do this year.

I just ditched the internal pop screens on the 500/210/205. I heard some clips with Lundahl transformers. The difference wasn't extremely obvious to me at the time. Maybe I'll try do it someday.

you have three pairs of Oktavamods? Greg, I knew you were weird, but come on...

It's a phenomenal sounding SDC, so why not? For cymbal spot microphones or a serious overhead setup, it's something that could be beneficial. Exhibit B had 5 overhead microphones IIRC- the cymbal sound is beastly.
