Particularly looking for instrumental speed metal, or power metal would work. I've already searched the forums for instrumental metal but I wanna try and dig out some more.

Also, out of curiousity, is there such thing as instrumental black metal??

I listen to a ton of instrumental stuff... I dunno about instrumental "speed" metal though. Some of my favorite instrumental metal progects are -

Blotted Science
Spastic Ink
Ron Jarzombek (his solo stuff is killer too)
Canvas Solaris
Altera Enigma
Derek Sherinian
Planet X
Aphelion
On the Virg
Art Metal

A lot of it is pretty jazz influenced, I dunno if you would like it & you've probably heard some of it. There are instrumental black metal progects. I would have to talk to someone to get some names though.

might wanna run a keyword search on this forum.

anyways, not really metal, but...

Michael Angelo Batio
Tony MacAlpine
Vinnie Moore

I was thinking about recommending some shredders like MacAlpine, but I figured it would be better off stickinh with band progects.

If you want a guy who's not really a metal guy but makes great music check out Dave Martone. I fucking love that guy.

Jeff Loomis - Zero Order Phase
Windham Hell (more to the death side of metal and do have vocals on some songs) - Reflective Depths Imbibe, Window Of Souls
Rusty Cooley (shred album) - Rusty Cooley

Composer Michiru Yamane (has done most, if not all Castlevania soundtracks) - Lots of kick ass metal instrumentals in her work.

You guys should also check out Tetrafusion (progressive/rock)

www.myspace.com/tetrafusion

Their new album should be out around January or so. Since your looking for the heavier stuff, try "The Beginning" or "Dark Matter"..Dark Matter has a ridiculously good power metal section during the middle of it..and The Beginning is just all out metal, especially toward the 2nd half.
