At the premiere. :D

Stod in line for six days to get those darn tickets, and no, I am not that fanatic, I _love_ the movies, but the main reason for me standing there was that there was a constant party, and I could actually get away with drinking beer every day/night...

-phyros ( wonders if it is the dwarf that bothers the dwarf ;) )
It didn't feel quite as party in the morning though :(
The beer drinkning went well though :D

Well, as this is my first intervention on this thread, I should establish a solid basis: I HATE Harry Potter. It might be because of the horrible face of that boy, or maybe because the boy is closer to the thirties than me. But the main reason is the strong and absolutely annoying waves of announcements, publicity, advertisements and everybody getting crazy.

As for LoTR, I'm not a huge fan of the movie, I think Peter Jackson was not the right man to carry on with such responsibility (I barely like something of his previous movies). But I prefer him rather than Pedro Almodóvar. :p

 i can only agree hehe Harry Potter has the ideal face for slapping  he really looks s t u p i d
yet,i watched the new movie and it was quite enjoyable,no masterpiece though...I guess if i weren't so busy with my pratchett, fossum, fredriksson, boye stuff,i would kill some time reading a Potter book

@rahvin: I guess that after so long reading and replying some of my posts here you might have guessed that if there's someone who loves humour and irony is at the gates  :p and after him it comes me ;) :p
now, for LotR movies I think that it would have been the wrongest mistake ever to pour humour into it (apart from Bilbo's birthday party). The story is sombre and desperate for nearly one thousand pages and jokes have no real place in the plot. Or at least I don't think it would be nice to see Saruman joking around about Gandalf's selfcleaning abilities :p
I loved the first one, and I for sure will love the second one...
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

fathervic (agreeing with phyros, and staying in the Shire for an eternity)

Yes, you will love these two high towers, and maybe we will enjoy them together but... you should admit there were serious "mistakes", specially for someone who claims that he's following the book with accurancy. ;)

well from the things i've read, they kill saruman on this one, so there's another huuuuge difference with the book, but well from a movie which a) is long like hell b) it covers such a complicate story c) i'm blindy in love with, then I don't mind about errors, mistakes, or little wells of desolation :p

@|ng: I wouldn't call the modifications Peter Jackson made to the plot "mistakes", because they were concsious choices he made in the adaptation, rather than a product of his slopyness or disregard for Tolkien's writing. The changes he made did streamline the story nicely, and it works better as a movie this way. After seeing the Extended Edition, I think there aren't many ways to get it more right. ;)

@fathervic: Nope, Saruman isn't killed, and I know this for a 110% accuracy. :p

really??? Oh chupi!!! I read it in a quite_famous spanish magazine though...but you made my day!!!!
but how will I recover all the mourning hours about it, huh?? :loco:

oh, I still have to buy that goddamned Extended Edition or it will chase me till death!!!

Ormir@ how much did you pay for the extended edition???
i want it,too......i bought the normal for 30Euros...so i suppose the extended costs sth like 50-60??

@Mel: It cost me 49 euros. It probably is cheaper in Greece though, Finland is the most expensive EU country, right after Sweden. Greece is one of the cheapest.

@fathervic: Yeah, this was a big rumour that I believed myself too, but it's been debunked on the net by people who have seen the movie, and I've read several reviews that specifically mention that Saruman isn't killed, as according to rumour.

well, that's not really true.....things in Greece are getting more and more expensive....also taking the salaries into consideration Greece can be cheap for scandinavians, but for greeks it's no,not at all....

also Cds and DVDs are rather expensive.......
i guess there's no chance i'll get it for less than 50E

@Ormir: With all my respects to Peter Jackson, whose career is based in "Bad Taste", "Meet The Feebles" and that movie with Michael J. Fox, that introduces the Nazguls for the very first time: there might be adaptations, but I call these modifications "a crappy piece of insolence towards Tolkien". :) I mean, the fact of see Frodo asking for permission to Aragorn to leave the fellowship crushes the suspense of the uncertain situation that the characters live during the rest of the story!!!! It's like make a movie about Jesus Christ and skip the part of the crucifixion!

Arfff, arfff...

|ng (Too critic)

most know pre LofR Peter Jackson is Braindead (which absurdly was translated into spanish as "Braindead, tu madre se ha comido a mi perro" XDDDD)

and |ng for god's sake, don't tell me you don't like the Nazguls!!!!! :OMG: for me they're probably the best done characters in the movie (along with Legolas)

@father: The regular version was about 34 euros. How about Spain?

@|ng: I would say PJ was best known for Heavenly Creatures, a highly acclaimed drama movie, instead of his splatters. :p

This really confuses me  What exactly do you mean? I've read the book three times, and once just before seeing the movie, but I didn't pay any attention to this change?

@mel: I looked at the catalogue again, I actually payed 39 euros for it. :0 Sorry for the misinformation. :loco:

26 euros here :) (or so I recall)

now the funny thing comes with cd's....the rest of europe and the world seem to pay regularly no less than 17-18 euros...
here the normal price (in little shops, not in big stores) are 15 euros, and oldies you find for 13 euros and stuff...New Opeth was 15,25 euros when in Greece for example was 18!!!
ah, I love my country :)

@Ormir: When the fellowship breaks up, Frodo fights with Boromir and the hobbit, thanks to the powers of the ring, escapes and decides to leave all alone to Mordor. That's the book version. Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli meet Boromir dying after the fight against the orcs, and they don't know what happened to Frodo and Sam. That introduces a double game that maintains symmetry during the whole story: Aragorn should face his destiny and choose his way knowing nothing about the way the ring has taken or who's controlling it, not even if Frodo is dead or alive. And Frodo keep on walking to Mordor.

In the movie, Aragorn says to Frodo: "Run away, hurry up!". So, he knows about Frodo's decision, and that's a big mistake.

changes in this movie:(this will be a spoiler for some)

they have scenes of the treants destroying isengard
Faramir acts like a jerk
Theoden is lame
There's no grudge with the orcs and uruk hai's
There's no shelob
Gollum doesn't look that good(in my opinion)

ok, ok, i didn't mean there had to be humour put in, but it's involuntarily amusing when everybody acts dead serious and at least some of them are not really good at it. the obvious choices were to gather real good actors (a bit like in kennet branagh's hamlet: ppl who does that live on stage every night) or give in to the popularity rule and add a few traces of levity: they wouldn't have been tr00 to the b00k, but everything would have added up a bit more smoothly imo. :)
