Love of Live (part två)

^ nice! the first picture is indeed a bit grainy. The 2nd and 3d look better! :)
hmm dunno i don't even have tickets yet... and it might be sold out. Although we have 2 shows in the NL i believe, one in Tilburg (where everybody seems to be heading to), and one in Amsterdam. So i hope i can still attend any of those. I'm not familiar with the music of Arkona and Varg, not even Finntroll :oops: never got around to listen to any of those which i could do now live :) Eluveitie, Equilibrium, Alestorm & Dornenreich i have already seen several times before but would be nice to see how Eluveitie has evolved since i've seen them last time 2-3 years ago when they wasn't so big and poppy yet :D

^ What are you talking about, those are some very nice photos.

Saw Hypocrisy yesterday in Gothenburg.
Scar Symmetry were warming up, definitely not my cup of tea! Boring as hell... Hypocrisy on the other hand were very good; a bit weak in the beginning, but after about two-three songs things started moving in a good direction and it only went up from there.
Also met Johan Hegg (Amon Amarth) in the bar and was recognised. Talked for a bit, nice guy. Also heard that parts of In Flames and Hammerfall was there, but didn't see them.

Damn, seems as though we never will end up on the same concert again. Those beers we've talked about are starting to sound really exciting :kickass:

Would love to see Hypocrisy but there's no way I'm going up to Gothenburg just for a show. Any chance they're playing in Malmö? Probably not...

Beer -> YES! Hypocrisy -> No, sadly I don't think so...
As said, would have loved to see Zonaria again. It was a tough desition, always a bummer when two shows are on the same night...

they are. But if i paid 1200 euro for the camera and it doesn't make better pictures than those i would be pissed and feel i was totally screwed. I trust that Lefay just needs to practice more and try out different settings for what works best. I am sure her camera is capable of much more than that! :kickass:

I will play live on 2 weeks on a benefit event for the Eq victims at the disaster area. A little nice festival for 2 days. Not sure yet which bands will play there, besides mine.

as elvina said they the first one is full of noise (a little bit is also resize's fault)
i tried to do all the photos without flash trying to understand how far can i force the camera.
those are all made using 1600 and as you can see the result vary. some are good without grain (2nd and 3rd), some other are worse like the first one, i suppose it depends from the light quality.
for example i went to see some friends last thursday who played live, and made some photos for them, with that light condition they came out good and without grain also using 3200 iso.
so i need some practice, and to know better the camera and its limits. i remember when i first used the previous camera, the photos came out very bad, but in the end i was able to do very good photos with it! the time will show us the truth!
and above all those photos are not retouched and photoshopped. there are filters to lower the grain...

@elvina: i know 1200 euro are a lot of money, but remember that a great great step forward can be done when you start to pay something like 2000-3000 euro for stuff, especially for lens! and i don't have all this money.

anyway i'm very satisfied with the result of photos made using flash!

That's awesome and very noble of you. good luck and have fun! :)

@ lefay: well i'm not an expert at all. I just remember some crispy clear concert photos without flash somebody i know makes. Their camera must be something around 400-500 euro and the photos are just amazing! i've been very jealous of those. So when i hear that a camera costs 1200 euro, i imagine it should make even better pictures, otherwise what's the point of paying that much? This is one of the best examples of photos my camera makes (without flash):

i paid 145 euro for it. I guess i'm just expecting wonders of the one that is 10x more expensive...

@ Allfader: that's great that you will be playing on a festival! It must be some much needed distraction and some positive experience! :kickass:

well....first of all the camera is 1200 € with two lens. the body itself costs about 900 euro.
the quality of a photo is made half from the body and half from the lens. if you have medium quality lens (as the ones i have) it will have some weight on the final photo. i have kit lens, which comes with the camera. good nikon lens can cost alone also 2000 euro, while mine costs about 250 each (even if they are sold at a lower price with the kit)....so you can imagine that there's a big difference from lens to lens, in quality, sharpness and brightness.
the final result depends also from the light. if you have a good light and you can use low iso you will not have this grains, while using 1600 iso is very difficult to find a camera with no rumour at all...my camera has the same sensor as the d300 which is another camera (again by nikon) which is a professional camera...and this sensor gives a very high quality image.
maybe the photo you have done is done with a lower iso, and that's why you don't have a big amount of grain....
remember also that the higher number of pixel a camera has, the higher can be the rumour.
i should know the setting of this photo to compare it to another one.
maybe you were nearer and the lights were more powerful. myabe your camera as a bigger aperture than my lens (and the aperture is one of the things you pay more in lens)....there are too many things that i don't know about this photo to compare it to mine.
and above all, what is better in a reflex camera compared to a compact one is the quality of the image, which is really better and more definite. and you can have 80 good photos out of 100, while with a compact camera a good photo is rarer (forgive me but i'm speaking of the old compact camera i had, and another one of nikon that a close friend of mine has, the only two i was able to try during concerts, maybe yours is better)
if you look at heri's face in your photo you can barely see it's features, while if you look at eluveitie's singer's face you can count every single hair of beard  (and those photos are resized and most of the quality and sharpness has been lost)

 haha noooo i posted this photo to show you how bad the best shot my camera is capable of looks! But still, i heard many compliments about those pictures, and i thinks it looks great for the price i paid for the camera. I wanted to buy a better one, but now you tell me how much it costs to get a nice clear shot, i guess i'll pass. I'm going to ask those guys i mentioned how they got those great shots and what kind of camera they have and what it costs. Now i'm curious. :)

instead i think that it's not a bad shot for that kind of camera.
i remember i wans't able to do shots without flash with my compact one :)

nothing really interesting is going to happen this month.
i have only two concerts in which i'm interested, and they are master (the 13th) they play quite far but it's saturday, and dark funeral (the 30th) and i'm not going to miss this concert for anything in the world!!!!! i've seen them only one time about 3 years ago and NOW i cannot really wait! i love them! they are probably my favourite black metal band ever!!!
and ops...there are taake too, but they will play the 31 and i'm not going to see them, because i cannot do 1200 kms in two days

Well, once again I saw Fear Factory yesterday, in Copenhagen this time. I knew it was awesome from the show in Malmö, but they still completely blew me away! I love their new album, and the liveshows are f*ing amazing! The audience was way better this time, the sound wsa sadly not so great, but the atmosphere was incredible! Can't get my arms down, ha ha!

Yesterday I went to see Korpiklaani. I'm not a fan from them, but since I was invited to the gig, I thought: why not?. It was a great show, far beyond my expectations. After the show, a friend and I went with the guys to drink to 'the irish pub'. I talked a lot with Kalle, very nice guy. Matti and Jonne are cool guys too, the later was really tired.

Yeah they're a great live band, I saw them a couple of years ago and also had a great time.

Yesterday I went to Paganfest in Amsterdam. Not exactly my kind of music, but some old friends of mine who I hadn't seen in a long time had been talking of meeting again for quite a while, and since they're really into that sort of music and told me they were going, I decided to buy a ticket anyway in the morning. I'm amazed it wasn't sold out, the venue seemed to be completely full.
I missed the first three bands (Varg, Arkona and Dornreich) due to other plans in the afternoon (and a traffic jam) but I've been told they were crap anyway. Alestorm was pretty good, missed Equilibrium (lunch/dinner break, again, didn't miss much). Eluveitie was also kinda cool.
I'm glad I've finally seen Finntroll, what a great live band. I don't know any of their material after 2004's Nattfödd, but apparently they've released 2 albums since. But obviously some old songs were played, Trollhammaren was awesome! :)

Just like Korpiklaani in October 2006, it was a great night, but at the same time it's the kind of music that I'd never listen to outside of concerts, and definitely wouldn't want to spend my money on for cd's.

I strongly suggest you go and check out the new Finntroll record. If you're a fan of Nattfödd you'll love the new record.
