Jeez these guys are good! I'm only on the second listen of Pieces of Primal Expressionism so far, but this is pretty much what I look for in progressive metal. Lots of variety, but never forgetting that they are most certainly a metal band. Add a lead guitarist with a keen ability to portray emotion, and we're looking at another top 10 contender to screw up my list!

So what do I need to know about these guys? I'd never heard of them before tossing this promo in.

I thought the album was hit and miss for me. Some of it is excellent (and reminds of Arcturus), and some of it I could live without. Close but no cigar...

Yeah I could see the Arcturus comparison, mostly La Masquerade Infernale with the Baroque-sounding passages. You never wonder if Mörk Gryning is a metal band though, lots of black metal type riffs and blast beats. I think they'll be your cup o' tea, Demonspell.

I'll be picking up a few more of theirs, looks like Maelstrom Chaos will be the first. :)

well their 3 previous albums are melodic black metal of the classical kind and without the deliberate poor production, my favourute is their first one "tusen år har gått" ("a thousand years have passed" in swedish). most people who enjoy their previous work seem to hate their latest judging from the reviews i've read but give it a try, TÅHG is really good, albeit a bit childish lyrcis at times, and in swedish i might add, at least some of them

Maelstrom Chaos is pretty good , I don't know Pieces , got good and more average echoes
