M-Audio AV40 Monitors

I dunno, I read some good reviews and this local store is carrying them new for only $150. I don't have good monitors at all right now, so these would be a big improvement. Whaddaya think?

I purchased them last week.

They are very good for the price. Very clear, very precise, nice wide stereo field, tight bass (of course they don't go that low), quite uncolored. They are LOUD too

I guess they are closer to a set of *very good* smallish speakers with monitor characteristics than full blown pro monitors. On the other hand they 're cheap and they won't wreck havoc on a small untreated room.

If you've got more cash and the room to use them properly Thomann has the BX5As for 195euros.

I don't mean to be a dick, but 150 bucks just doesn't get you a good pair of monitors.

Do you already have a decent pair of headphones?

No dickness taken (I should rephrase that)...

I'm well aware of the "ya get what ya pay for scenario" and if I honestly had the money, I'd go all out. But these seem pretty decent for the price. Not to mention, I work at a very nice studio at night and any SERIOUS projects get done there. These would just be something for home.

@Radikal - Thanks a lot man, I think I'm pretty much sold on these unless anyone has any reason otherwise.
