Yeah, but I guess I need fuckin PT 7. Anybody got a copy layin around? Anyone? =P
P.T.L.E. 7 runs on Tiger 10.4.3 ........... 10.4.4 hasn't been officially approved yet:Smug: Yep, one of those Apple/ Digi things you'll run into if you stay up todate with Apple's latest OS's!!!

Congrats on the Mac. I have the same machine Dual 2.0Ghz 2.5 gigs of ram.PCI-X slots.

Generally Digidesign's "approval" of Apple's OS releases is meaningless. Oftentimes they lag behind Apple by months with their approval process, and usually they issue NO patch to Pro Tools once they approve... which means it was able to work fine with the last release all along.

One of many issues I have with Digidesign... I realize that major studios are doing mission-critical work, but most of Apple's software updates have nothing to do with audio or midi.

Yeah, both my PowerBook G4 and PowerMac G5 dual 2.0 have never crashed either...running some sick fucking sessions too on the G5...I've never actually seen a Mac crash either...Odd, I always hear about Macs crashing multiple times in the presence of a PC lover. Meh.

Well, Macs used to be VERY crash prone in the classic Mac OS 9 and earlier days. Apple completely rewrote their operating system from the ground up with Mac OS X, and it was the best thing they've ever done as a company. I mean, the iPod gets more media love, but ultimately OS X is the best operating system out there, it's what saved Apple from completely doomy doom, and Apple are years or decades ahead of the competition with it.

Microsoft would be wise to write a new OS from scratch, Windows has so many serious problems that are impossible to fix if they wish to retain full backward compatability. They ought to make a new OS on a Unix-based core, keep whatever aspects of the Windows UI they feel have been succesful, and drop the rest of the junk (nobody really understands the purpose of the System Tray, and it's abused relentlessly by developers, for example.) Do what Apple did - if people want to run their Windows 9x/NT/XP apps, throw them in an emulation layer and insulate the stuff so it can't infect the rest of the system with evil malware. Microsoft is really running out of steam with Vista, any good ideas in it are stolen from Apple, and none of these stolen ideas are implemented nearly as well as the original ideas from OS X.

Hmm, glad I came into Macs when OS X was released. I use to hate Macs before, because of the old-school OS, but when I started working here for my first engineering job years ago, and had to use nice Macs everyday, I fell in love immediately. I bought my PowerBook soon after starting there, and got myself a dual 2.0 G5 a year ago as well. I hate going back to my PC now, it seems out-of-date to me :p. Anyway, I don't want another MAC vs. PC thread to start, so anyone with opposite views, please disregard anything I've said so far.

Now that Apple has gone to Intel hardware, the main thing that defines Macs is Mac OS X. The debate really is Mac OS X vs. Windows XP and Vista. I know some people prefer Windows and I don't have any problem with that, there are a couple of things I think are cool about Windows (resizing windows from every corner, great games), but these days it's just such a dangerous OS to run for mission critical work. MS is trying hard to beef up security but I don't know how much more can really be done.

A lot of what motivates hackers is politics... and as long as Microsoft represents greed, corruption, and incompetence, hackers will try their hardest to keep Microsoft busy writing security patches. Sucks for them, reading some of Microsoft's official developer literature has given me some sympathy for the issues they face, but it doesn't make me want to use their OS for serious work.

My buddy had a G4 I believe that crashed completely. Only time I've seen/heard of that happening... but, that fucker fried pretty badly.

BTW, think I've mostly gotten this thing up and running... lol, so, thanks guys.

Kind of true, but if you venture into 'not approved yet' land. And your rig f**ks up, it's a bitch down grading OS's :)
Obviously 10.4.4 did something, because many folks are complaining at the D.U.C. about P.T.L.E. 7 & 10.4.4
I do remember running P.T.L.E. 6.4 in an 'not approved yet' Mac & O.S.!!!! It ran great with that combination! Weird:loco:
