Maiden-influenced band appreciation thread

Indeed. Back then, they were referred to as "the poor man's Maiden."

No doubt.

I remember seeing the video for Renegade back in the old VH1 Friday Night Rock Show. Me and my friends all agreed it was very very much like Maiden :)

I'll be waiting for your Gers slagging tomorrow... :p

influences abound in metal, its rare that something new and innovative springs fully formed out of the masses.
Ayeka, I've been listening alot to a Japanese metal band called Concerto Moon lately. some lyrics in Japanese (but usually not the chorus) which I don't understand of course, but the songs are constructed so well that listening to them is a pleasure. with your love of classic metal and hard rock I think you would like these guys. point I'm posting here is that Norifumi Shima, the guitarist, is enormously Blackmoreish, and a helluva lot of fun to listen to.

You like them Liz? They never really did it for me, though From Father To Son quite a bit. Very Malmsteenish at times, and neoclassical shredder metal is not my favorite. But I hear what you mean.

it's hard for me to specify an album because mostly I have mp3s, I have only the first live CD which of course I got from theend.
but they hold my interest far more than most 80s style hard rock/metal. not really an original bone in their bodies but good songs and fine leads by Shima.
it seems of course once a style becomes economically viable, a million clones spring up in their place, take today's power metal scene. every German with a strat and a perm (and every singer who has ever warbled for Herr Malmsteen) is putting out PM cds, and to be honest, most of them are completely mediocre.

I have Rain Forest by Concerto Moon. Good Malmsteen clones, but nothing much more. Lots and lots of Malmsteen clones these days....which reminds me, I need to review the new At Vance!

That definately sounds worth checking out :) *fires up Kazaa*

EDIT: King Of The Judas!  gotta have that! :D there's a Prologue coming through also to keep me occupied in the meantime -_-

EDIT again: Both tracks are severely good. King Of The Judas reeks of The Gates Of Babylon by Rainbow, I mean really reeks, but is still uber cool. I'm downloading Lonely Last Journey and Live On The Memory now and if they are good also then the album (something about a rainforest? ) will be worth a blag. Cheers for telling me about these guys! :D

That album is wretched! ;)

You mean the same one you told me to buy at ProgPower III because you thought it was their best one????

I think it's ok - but you have to be a fan of Malmsteen and Rainbow.

Really....? I love that song. Ever heard the Malmsteen version - it's incredibly good considering. No wankery at all!

I would never! Unless of course I was wasted and...oh wait, that's quite possible. The ONLY Concerto Moon album I can stomach is From Father To Son. Rain Forest is boring tripe.

Mmmm, that would explain it.

On the subject of bands that have been influenced by Iron Maiden, I'd say Edguy. Not only does Tobias sound like Bruce I'm sure the name of a band is some ode to Iron Maiden. An example of a Swede seeing Eddie on stage, "Oh, look at that Ed Guy!"

Oh well, that's my two cents.
