Man.. im sick of the POD XT.

It's time to move on.. Im not sure about the palm mutes and the gain on the POD XT anymore.
I have gotten good results, but what should i do next to get a better tone for my music/demos?

For TGM i'll probably end up with re-amping, but for recording songs i need something else.. something that sound thicker, less digital and has more impact with the palm mutes.

What are my options and what would you lads do? (open question, i know but have a go at it).

your pod tone fits so well with your music. The obvious option is to get a real amp and mic it up. I say engl savage or a 5150 would be logical.

Bob your xt tone suits your mixes in a really heavy way. I understand what you are talking about the palm mutes and gains levels , cuz im always tweaking that to make a particular riff to sound like it should be . To be honest , the reamped tracks of one the songs you posted are not better or worse than the pod tones. I think the axe fx would be for you , the impulse thing is going to be improved with time thats for sure .

Go for something with real tubes (ENGL E-530 for example..) You will notice the difference! It really sounds better than current digital modelling even when using impulses on the line out signal...

EDIT: The difference is most noticeable with palm mutes... !

I can't believe I'm saying this, but unless you can afford a good head and cab (not to mention are able to mic one up without the neighbors showing up with pitchforks and torches), I would go for an Axe-FX - I've been listening to Keregioz' demo for the past week or so (check it out in this thread, it's incredible!) and AFAIK it's all Axe-FX for the tones, and definitely the best sounds I've heard out of the thing! (finally, someone who owns one that doesn't play djent )

Well, i DID get a very nice offer the other day and i can get one for a really decent price..
Oh lawdsy, i shall think about it for a while.. haha, they have been saying that it reacts to your playing like a tube amp, INCLUDING palm mutes which i like so much.

Just saw this post.... I just wanted to comment that in my demo I didn't use axe-fx (although that's not a reason to not listen to it ). Apparently Marcus confused me with someone else.
I have to say though that like Marcus I'm still waiting to hear someone who owns an axe-fx to record some non-djenty stuff. What I've heard so far is pretty good but not 1500euros (or is it 1700 now?) good.

Oh and I gotta say AxeFx as an option as well. I know I heard a demo a while back where it was doing rock tones reallllllllly well, and I actually thought to myself at the time "so it does do more than djent" haha. I really don't think it's a one-trick pony. I do, however, think it may take longer to tweak a tone out of than a POD. I honestly haven't used one yet. All I have to go on are clips and Jeff's (DSS3) comments on his experience with one a while back, which I definitely trust his judgement and word since he's such an anal bastards But! there is a band coming up that I'm recording where one of the guitarists has an AxeFx so I may get the chance to record it, depending on what route we take. It's tech-death, so no djent!

The AxeFx pricing from their order page says $1,500US for the regular and $2k for the Ultra (extra processing fx, etc.). Personally I'd only ever need the $1.5k one for the amp portion, I think the Ultra is overpriced for just having some more fx to fuck with, not $500 worth IMO. Unless I'm mistaken and it also includes more amps or something, but I'm fairly certain it doesn't.

I think the Axe will have the flexibility and sound that you need. If you end up hating it, it would be pretty easy to sell!

Going by your PodXT tones, (which I was never able to touch with mine!), you could do some amazing things with the Axe in my opinion. Here are some clips that I know of:

I think the potential is definitely there for you Bob. I know a bunch of really seasoned players that have really fallen in love with the Axe. In your hands I bet it would be a great combo. Also, Bulb presents some great tone with it. It is djent, yes, but please...it's not like the Axe was made to do djent! lol. It's just a great tone that he has going.

Looks like its growing nearer for Bob though, and as far as i see its the only possible piece of hardware that can be an improvement on the XT. Line 6 need to stop cash cowing the XT technology and give us something new to feast on I reckon.
I'd be tempted to test the soft sims to death, as I think they are getting better and better. I wouldnt bother with an amp at all until you get the studio space!

The workmanship that goes into the Axe, coupled with the parts, processor, and options justify the price IMO!
