Marshall JCM 2000 TSL

ahem

is what you want.
I'm more and more thinking so as well.

Can you talk a little bit more about how load you really have to crank it to sound good? That's one of my biggest concerns with those old Marshalls.

Also the 2205 don't seem to be found easily... :erk:
I have it recorded on my bands myspace - www.myspace.com/anabyssmetal - but, that tone was before I had the amp FULLY perfected - that was like.. 90% right, ha.
I quite like that tone. Unfortunetaly it's not really what I need. I need something way more 'poppy' if you will (Think: Paramore or Avril Lavigne/Sk8ter Boi).
[...]Anything with digital circuitry is to be trusted about as much as a woman who asks how much money you make first thing on the first date.
 Haha, well, exactly my concerns with that particular model. Gonna have to investigate further on that...
750 for a used TSL?
FUCK NO!!!, get a 6505 instead and save the rest!
Alright, I guess by now the TSL is off my list! ;)
Honestly the 6506 (+, that is) is in my top 3. But as i mentioned above I need some mainstream pop/rock kinda tone. Oh well, and a clean channel.

witht the 50 watt it really doesnt have to go THAT loud to get a nice tone out of it, obviuosly louder is better.
for the rock tone thing, this amp is tits.
Takes a while to tweak the clean channel to get the ammount of breakup right, as it just has a volume control which is more of a gain knob really; and obviously not having a middle control is a bit annoying, but its not the end of the world. the clean channel is leagues better than a 5150 (which has NO clean channel) jcm2000 dsl 100 (which aint bad clean) or dual rectifier (which just refuses to break up..... ever). its not a vox, matchless or fender twin granted, but i really like it.
the music my band plays is more rock than metal with loads of clean so im in love with it.
i'll post some clips tommorow if you have some D.I files it'd make my life easier.

You just have to scour ebay and adds everywhere. I got mine with a flightcase for £400, but that was off a mate......

if you cant get hold of one, look for an orange rockerverb. awesome amps.

What about the balance between the clean and the distorted channel volume-wise? I assume if I need a good distortion I'd have to crank the dirty channel. On the other hand I'd have the clean channel pretty low to get a good clean sound. So my guess is that the dirty channel would be louder than the clean one? Is that a problem?

Do you have a link to your band's music that you used the JCM during recording?

Here are a few DIs of two riffs: http://uploaded.to/file/1zcjop These are just my Jackson straight into my FirePod.
The clips starting with a 'C' are supposed to be clean guitars. The rest is distorted.
Thanks a lot, much appreciated! :notworthy

I'll definitelly keep my eyes and ears open but I don't think I'll find one for £400 (~ €450). From what I've seen they go for like €750 on eBay.

As for the Rockerverb that's on my list of amps to watch out for as well. ;) If it just wouldn't be so expensive... :erk:
Have you tried the AD30HTC? That'd be a little cheaper.

the ad30 is pretty cool, but can be a bit too compressed messy and vox'y sounding which youll either love or hate, or love and then grow to hate

Getting the balance aint that hard once really but yes, you just crank the drive channels volume to compensate then you got a master volume after that... fuckin a.
I'll try and get some clips sorted for tommorrow for ya.

lemme try and find something, coz i bought it after we finished the album.

AHHA!
Well..
if you like Top Gun you LOVE this.

one of our B sides. (shhhhhh dont tell anyone)
recorded live, Yes that's right... LIVE one take of each guitar player, mostly doubling each other so no need for double tracking
Guitars are dual rec + 800 both into orange cab ,
except for the solo which was overdubbed. in one take i might add, by yours truly with a 5150.

Dude, drums sound great, but were you even using the distorted channel for those guitars? :zombie: Sounds like a Ramones tone! (and the bass tone screams "Rancid"). Also, it's weird to hear these lyrics actually enunciated, rather than Kenny Loggins' bizarre...noises  Nice job on the solo, but too short!

It's amazing though, A/B'ing it with the original, Loggins' version sounds like it was high-passed at like 200 Hz :D

I quite liked the tone on this, bit different anyhoo; well...we ain't a metal band! well our normal stuff is a bit heavier than that... ish,
the guitars were ..

and
0145102332_md.png

which probably has a lot to do with it.

But yeah dirt channel on the 800, gain at 6.
red channel on the dual rec, gain at noon.

Man, I love that track. Just realized it's a cover, didn't know the original. Nevertheless it sounds great. :)
Also diggin the guitar tone. I'd probably need a bit more distortion though.

I bought a 60 watt TSL back on 2000, got it home, and took it back the same day to exchange it for a DSL 2000 100 watt. The TSL sounded really bad to me, but I rather enjoyed the DSL quite a lot. I was under the impression that they were the same amp with the TSL having more channels, but they are completely different amps. I sold the DSL a year later for a Triple Rectifier, but I wish I still had it today because it was fun to play on.

Nah, I find it way too scooped (I can barely hear any pitch to the guitars half the time) and strangely "squelchy" - what I would give to hear Nile with a Behemoth guitar tone! I mean listen to the tones in this video (EDIT: Especially at 2:43!!!!!!), my good god :notworthy

Haha, well I love the vox on Demigod, but I love them even more on The Apostasy (less layering, more Nergal roaring  ), but I don't think I could ever be disappointed by anything from that band!

I saw them live on "Knüppelnacht" full force festival..about 2001, I think. Nergal´s vocals was pure, diabolic and brutal as hell. And holy shit, this guy has an evil aura on stage..haha :flame: I don´t like the vocal effects on demigod, but I love this album though.

I just got back from a Battle Of The Band type of thing we played tonight. We used the supplied amps. Guess what mine was: JCM 900, can't remember if 2100 or 4200 or is it 4100? Anyway, now I know, why nobody likes time. Basically it sounded like a solid state amp. Well, a bad one. Really fizzy and no real 'dirt' in that sound. Our second guitar player was luckier and had a DSL on his side of the stage but wasn't really great neither...
Given that we didn't really have a lot of time to setup/check out the amps I guess it was ok but that experience didn't make me wanna get a JCM 900. ;)
We ranked 2nd btw and entered the final round in three weeks (and this was our first show with that band). :)
