Mastered by Muppets - In progress

, mainly a slight fizz in the guitars).
A +1 on the vocals needing to be more intelligible.

Everyone's a fucking critic:loco:

Trying guitars on another speaker for a bit more snap, & already cleaned the vocals up bigtime.... just needed a little drop in the 250hz region & a slight 1k boost.

Bass, gonna reamp that tonight & see what I can do.

Was it just the bass guitar, or the bottom end on guitars & kick?

I guess no multitracks available to play with right Oz?
Am I asking too much?
as soon as I get home I'll take a listen!

cheers

Dude, I'm mixing a full length at the moment, followed by solid bookings for the next year.... .....I've barely got enough time to play with this, much less upload multis for an entire song...

Well, I'm not digging the guitartone. I would've made it a bit more scooped to give it more bite. And yeah, the bass needs more growl.
The clean part is too dry. I would add some more reverb to the cleans and A LOT to the leadharmonies. That solo was ace! incredibly nice, what bothers me though is that the last note didn't ring out!
The clean part with distortion (4:45) needs to appear louder imo. I've never liked clean guitars being as loud as distorted guitars. So lower the clean part(3:38-4:45) earlier with some db's.
at 5:17 wasn't it supposed to be a part that sounds clipped to death? like when he says ...ghettoblaster. Or something like that?

I'm really interested to hear the final product.

The clean part is dripping in reverb. I can add some to the harmonies, though. You're right on that bit.
As for the guitar tone, I decided not to mimic the impossible. Since I don't have James Hetfield at my disposal, I decided to get the best sound possible from Dan's playing, rather than sound like someone else.

As for 5:17, I'm not mastering this, Lasse is. It's a "test mix"

Its coming along nicely :-)

I really don't like the vocals. Shows once again that Hetfield has a very recognizeable/unique voice - no matter if you like it or not.

True, I think they should find a more trash-like singer, but its a forum collaboration mix so it is what is it :-P

Everyone's a fucking critic

It was obvious, this is a mixer's forum, what did you expected? XD

I'm looking forward to the final stuff.

Agreed, the bass is too much, and I feel there's too much verb on the vocals, pushing them back in the mix, which leads to the difficulty in making out the words IMO. Otherwise, sounds fantastic! (though there's perhaps just a bit too much woof on the guitar palm mutes, but only just)

Oh yeah, and for the guitar harmony before and after IzzyRock's awesome solo, I feel there should be more gain on the leads so they sustain and soar a bit more, like in the original

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO any more scooped than it already is and I'd have to, well, die...please, come on now...

Sorry, but I didn't like that tone at all. It isn't as "mean/angry" as I would've wanted it. It's voiced completely wrong imo. I'm not expecting a exact copy of the MoP-tone. A august burns red- or a dream theater- or a clayman-tone will do too. ;)

Well I don't know August Burns Red, and I've never been overly fond of the Clayman tone (though I wouldn't want any other tone for that album) - but I can definitely say that the best DT tones have WAAAYYY more mids than that - adding mids (within reason, and frequency dependent) gives a tone bark and bite, not taking them away! However, for the record Oz, I think this rhythm tone fits the Metallica tribute/parody nature of this song perfectly!

God I really hate the snare, no offence.. I'm hearing way too much snare bottom in the fill at the start, and overall its just too.. papery? Not sure what the word I'm looking for is. I reckon a more traditional snare would work better. This one DOES work fairly well in parts of the song, especially the verse, but overall it could use a redo imo, although no-one else has brought it up so its probably just taste.
Guitars sound great, except when they come in with chords just after the clean bit they sound awful. No idea what happened there.
And yeah, toms need work, vocals are hard to understand, bass is woofy but you've already fixed that so I won't go on about it.
