Meaning of the word Opeth?

Sounds Shakespearean to me: "the door doth opeth..."

Or maybe descriptive: "to be ope-like"

But seriously...I guess it's Swedish for something?

I actually thought "Opeth" was a word the band just made up because it sounded cool....but yeah, I knew for a while it meant "city of the moon."

I have a brainbuster for you. How do you pronounce "Opeth". Do you say Opeth like "O-pith"?

Or like...."O-peth" where the "e" sounds the same as in the word "exit"? Just curious.

I have heard both.

I have ALWAYS pronounced it as O-pEth (as in Exit)...and, I'm quite certain it is the correct pronounciation.

All I know, is that if I say the word "Opeth" 10 times in a row, and stare at it in text, I realise that it is a very strange word.

I downloaded that Opeth concert they played in Austin... Before they play "In Mist..." Mikael says "We're Opeth (Oh - peth) from Stockholm... Sweden"

So, yeah... I'd say it sounds like Oh - peth
