Just a bit of Nerd News but something I think is cool.

It seems that the BBC have finally announced the actor who will be playing Doctor Who since David Tennant has decided to step down from the role.
Also seems that they are choosing to go with a fairly unknown young actor, Matt Smith (who starred in shows "The Ruby in the Smoke" & "Dairy of a Call Girl" with former Who Companion Billie Piper) as well as using a new creative team (now headed by script writer for the latest series Steven Moffat), so it looks as though it will still continue with the excellence that we have seen from the previous series.

Though I would've liked it if the rumours of the great actor Chiwetel Ejiofor (the villian from "Serenity" and the activist from the amazing "Children of Men") to play the new Doctor were true.
Think that it would've made an excellent twist on the character and he has the charisma to carry it off.

Never seen the dude.

Will take a lot to improve on Tennent

think that is why they went with him.

and it will take a mammoth effort to out do Tennant and so many other doctors too.

personally, I would like to see another Jon Pertwee (3rd) combined with Tom Baker (4th Doctor).

for those who are curious, here is the new guy's wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matt_Smith_(British_actor)

Funny, they were my favourite doctors until Tennent.

The article mentioned that dud who played Tristan in All Creatures Great and Small as the youngest (I didn't like him very much at all)

I fucking love the new generation of Dr Who, great show, i need to get it on dvd but last time i saw it which was 6 months ago they had all the episodes split up and it would've been quite expensive to get em all :(, have they got any cheapish boxsets now with all the new generation seasons? including the one before David Tennant?

yep. They have complex boxsets of all the latest series but they aren't really al that cheap but on par with other boxsets of their size.

as always, JB HiFi has them as does the ABC stores and Dymocks.

I'm cautiously optimistic about the new guy... I was really expecting Jon Pertwee's son Sean to take over going by the rumours floating around, so this threw me a bit when this guy completely came out of nowhere at the last minute!

I'm a HUGE Tennant fan, so this is gonna be some tough footwear to walk in for Matt...!

The new series is a great place to start if you found the older stuff boring. It's got its charm of course and I enjoy it, but the new stuff is just so much more fast paced with a great soundtrack!

Here's a few fan made videos to show what it's like these days:

Yeah, Tennent is really really good.

Sort of like a Dickinson Maiden versus the Blaze/Dianno ... they're all good, but one's REALLY good.

Yeah, the Kylie one was just a big dumb adventure romp (with some touching moments in there too) and is a lot of great fun, but Blink is just great TV - you'll never look at statues the same ever again! :p I know a friend of mine was WAY freaked out by this episode and was scared to walk outside for days after! HAHA! It's a "Doctor Lite" episode, though, so it's more about the story than about The Doctor as such.

Another good one (also written by the same writer as Blink) is Midnight from the last series. That's equally creepy and has some awesome acting by David Tennant! :)

Yes BLINK is a great episode,
Watched a classic last nite "Vengeance on Varos" Colin Baker era ... very violent ,despite the sets being a bit dodgey...

Some trailers of those 3 ones mentioned:
