Melodic Black Metal

Look, Dissection is not nearly as cool and accomplished as the better bands working in this style, just switch to real metal, ok?

THREAD OVER.

I'd say that the two albums pictured above are the only two really essential melodic black metal albums.

On another note, I don't particularly care for the term 'melodic black metal'.

Aside from the bands already mentioned, you can try Negator and Legion of Darkness. They are two relatively unknown bm bands that rank among my favorites. They are melodic without use of keyboards, but sound a bit different in style than Dissection, Sacramentum, Dawn, Vinterland, etc.

Thanks for the recommendations people.

Personally I can't stand the "Troo" Black metal scene, I rather listen to something that has a sense of musicianship.

"In Defiance of Existence", next to "Storm of the Light's Bane" is probably my favorite BM album.

Stop validating/restating his opinions all the time. I doubt he gives a damn.
Invalidating others' by merely replying to "X rules" -----> "X blows" is hardly insightful either.

What the fuck is your problem? I just so happen to believe what I said. I really do not know why you think I am validating/restating his opinions all the time. If I've done any such thing it's really no different than anybody else on this forum sharing similar opinions concerning what is and is not good, so I don't know why you would take issue with this. And I'm not going to write a fucking treatise every time I make a judgment about a band.

No, it just seems that you enjoy validating some people while putting down others in generic terms, like "you rule", "shit post", "I like when you say that", "this blows", "no,it's shit",
or handing out periods(.) all around, moreso than the average poster here
You're often too stuck-up about things as well, but, meh, at least it's understandable to an extent.

Yeah well I'm pretty lazy these days so if somebody says something I agree with I don't feel inclined to expand on it. I'd rather just say that I agree with it. Sometimes there's really nothing more to say. Anyway, I suppose we should let this thread get back on topic.

I find most melodic black metal to be different from Dissection, which is good, because I don't really see much in Dissection anyways.

it's nice to get a poll. some people have shit taste, it's good to know how many people like something, and if someone who listed other bands like you happens to hate one someone else mentioned... it all factors in as useful information. I'm sure those people are just devastated that not everyone loves the same bands as them, but that's the price people pay for being helpful.

I believe we settled this already, if you read his response. There's no need to bring it up again.
I suppose, I'm acting in a slghtly hypocritical manner, since I'm a huge fan of many classics as well, but I just don't understand the appeal of gratuitious assholeness that often accompanies the "old-school" folks. It bugs me a little to the extent that I would comment on it sometimes, but that's all. Let's not turn it into a bigger deal than it is.
