Melodic/melo death recs?

Yes, CoB's early work is definitely good shit.

also,

swallow the sun

and basically any christian alvestam project/band is pure gold

scar symmetry
universum
miseration
the few against many
unmoored
solution .45

etc. etc. most of those have been rec'd but still, i want to reiterate the fact that christian is a god

Mors Principium Est is a boring CoB clone.

Imperanon is ok I guess.

The Red In The Sky Is Ours is the only good At The Gates album.

Scar Symmetry seems ok.

Swallow The Sun is meh.

Of course Insomnium

Bodom until the last two came along.

Kalmah is good except for Swampsong and For The Revolution.

Unmoored is good.

The Few Against Many seems good (Haven't checked out their whole full length).

Edge Of Sanity is also good.

Darkane is hit or miss imo but their latest seems pretty solid last time I checked.

Haven't checked out Universum, Solution .45, or Miseration.

Don't exactly think Impaled is pure melodic death metal, maybe some material, haven't really listened to them in a while.

@Einherjar: SuidAkrA is a good folk/melodic death fav of mine >.>

Scar Symmetry's clean vocals ruin the whole freaking band. Miseration has the same damn vocalist (or atleast did) so be prepared for more if you check them out.

No way, the clean vocals are fucking amazing. Yeah it's a bit hard to get into shit like that but for me personally that's what sells the band. he is an amazing vocalist, no one is like him. They're one of my favorite bands, Holographic Universe blows my mind to this day.

JG:

Eh, mors principium est is nothing like CoB in my opinion.
And i can't believe you dont like slaughter of the soul...
well solution .45 hasn't released the album yet but from what i've heard it's going to be awesome, same with universum

I use to like the other ATG albums but after I went back to them I realized they were just nothing compared The Red In The Sky is Ours and were just repetitive and what have you.

Well its not my favorite album but its worth listening to imo. Sorry to be a little harsh. And I saw you were getting into Helloween. *Thumbs up* good band. Master Of The Rings is not one of their best quality albums though, but its fine I guess.

Gardens of Grief is the best ATG. I'm surprised no one mentioned Amorphis.
