There's so much bullshit that comes out of these guys mouths', I don't know what to believe. Scott probably had to tell him what to write to cover his ass.
HA HAHA HAHAH HAHAHAHA, thats so fucking true..

Just a couple of comments regarding Spitz's statement:

"I've become aware of an interview posted on a Finnish Web site...

Minor correction - Metal-Rules is a Canadian site. The reporter is from Finland.

...and the gross misrepresentations therein. Please take this interview with a huge grain of salt as this is unprofessional tabloid-esque journalism. The interviewer (his girlfriend in tow) was totally unprofessional in nature with his tape recorder being turned on and off while he joked around prodding and poking me, asking questions I answered in jest, sarcasm or a joking manner over a period of more than an hour while we were all goofing off backstage. However it is presented as running dialogue and is full of untrue misrepresentations and statements taken out of context or translated entirely incorrectly.

If Dan was truly answering questions in "in jest, sarcasm or a joking manner" then shame on him. I think he has been in this business long enough that if you say a bunch of stuff that you KNOW will cause some stir then why would you do it jokingly or sarcastically?

If the interviewer was 'unprofessional' or drunk or whatever...then why 1)do the interview and 2) start making 'joke' comments?

Either Dan is lying or not using good judgement.

"The comments regarding Dimebag hurt me the most. First of all, every metalhead knows Dime had his own unique style of playing and could NEVER, EVER copy anyone. Trying to take away something from someone who is no longer with us to defend their self is just pure idiocy! I take nothing away from anyone. If I said people copied my leads I said it in a general term such as 'Paul [Crook], Dime and whomever ANTHRAX had fill in for me in the studio.' Dime (or Paul for that matter) did not copy my leads at all. Dimebag Darrell Abbott had his own amazingly distinct style which spoke for itself and will live forever.

This part is quite confusing. "If I said people copied my leads I said it in a general term" - that makes absolutely no sense. This needs further explanation. If you said it? So you are not sure? And if you did, then you said in a 'general term'? WTF?

This portion of his statement seems like back pedaling. I said something I should not (whether is was true and should not have put Dime down like that or it was not true and I should not lie). I can imagine Scott having influence on this part of the explanation.

"And as for comments about my bandmates, I had nothing to say about them to the interviewer that I wouldn't say to them in person. I've known these guys for 25 years. What's posted in this interview is just insane, inaccurate and insensitive.

Ok, so Dan says he would say any of that stuff in front of his bandmates and then says the interview was 'inaccurate'? Again, this makes no sense. Either stand by your comments or call the interviewer a liar but don't speak out of both sides of your mouth. If you have no shame in what you said then why is it inaccurate?

"I apologize to anyone mentioned and to everyone unfortunate enough to read this interview. It is just a compilation of bullshit and I don't wish to comment on it further.

A general statement that the interview is bullshit but the site has released a statement that it is accurately transcibed from the tapes recorded. I wish Dan would be a bit more specific on why and what is bullshit about this interview.

"I usually do not do interviews unless they are for credible guitar playing or guitar equipment based magazines and are requests that come from an ANTHRAX manager or Candi, my personal manager and wife. I gave this interview against my better judgment and feel totally taken advantage of.

At least he admits that it was bad judgement if that was really the case.

If any interview sounds different from my usual intensity, intelligence and love for my colleagues, music, God, and family... then it is strictly fiction and not from any Spitz I know.

Again, no proof or explanation on how exactly this interview was 'fiction'. Just a general and vague statement and no specifics to back it up.

Overall, I find the statement as a reactionary measure taken by Dan who probably was told by either other bandmates or management to address the situation. However, it does not answer any of the questions that are looming out there and makes no specific rebuttals to the content of the interview. If you actually take the time to address it then make it count or else just ignore it until it blows over.

There were far too many details about his old tapes to be in jest or made up.
I agree with the interviewer, Dan was very honest and along with that honesty sometimes comes backlash.

Remember when the bass player from Creed made a disparaging comment about Eddie Vedder in an interview?
Scott was very vocal that he wasn't fired quick enough.
Dan accuses Dime of ripping him off.
Where's Scott's outrage now?

To be fair Scott was quick to comment that if these quotes were true they "would not be tolerated" or something to that effect.

Yeah, butt Scott needs the classic lineup for the zombie tour. Do the math on that one.

But we have heard from Dan and the interviewer that there was a tape recording.
It shouldn't be that big a deal to get a copy and settle this once and for all.
This isn't the Zapruder Film...

Maybe I should just drop it but the thing that struck me in the interview despite Spitz later comments about "If any interview sounds different from my usual intensity, intelligence and love for my colleagues, music, God, and family... then it is strictly fiction and not from any Spitz I know." is that it sounded a lot like the famous 20-Questions thing. It did look like the Spitz I know.
