My theory is that there is one group people who enjoy music simply for the rhythm and the pure aggression, while the other group has a need for more musical elements, such as melody and vocal diversity to satiate their ears.

What I find still puzzling is the first group of people who do not enjoy the music of the second group's liking.

I have to say I am definetly a member of the first group, and partially in the second group. My favorite band is Hypocrisy, and I enjoy such bands as Amon Amarth and Kataklysm which all use melody and vocal diversity. The problem sets in when some bands utilize that semi-agressive approach with meh melodies that doesn't work for either aggressiveness or catchiness. (Dark Tranquillity)
