We topped the list with 3 bands! (If I had my way it would be more like 5 bands)

I picked up this book last week, since I'm a sucker for "Top X" lists of various kinds. It's funny you mention the UK bands list, since that one stuck out to me as I read the book. I understand that lists of this type are all inherently subjective, but that UK list was so blatantly 'wrong' that I can't help but think the author simply wrote it that way to have a laugh and get a rise out of people.

Those bands just couldn't match the greatness of Motley Crue, who made the author's top 20 greatest Metal bands list.

I have owned every band on that list for years now and always just thought they were ok. In the exception of Sabbat nothing ever struck me as overly incredible, all good but not incredible.
Now Sabbat however that certainly gives the UK a few points, they are would of the greatest thrash bands ever as far as I'm concerned.
However I think the UK thrash scene was brushed over much due to the fact that the Bay Area was getting all the attention for thrash metal. Much like how the NWOBHM over shadowed great bands like Manila Road here in the US.

This album is INCREDIBLE. Are you saying The Grimmett isn't incredible because he is.

and so is THIS one.

I won't even touch the bands I reissued already.

That is a tiny bit different. You are comparing an entire continent of bands vs one cult US band. Manilla Road were just out in the middle of nowhere USA with no real way to be exposed. NWOBHM cannot overshadow anything that didn't ever see the light. ;) I am sure Mike will agree with me about Kansas state of affairs for up and coming bands in the late 70's.

Manilla Road is one my favorite bands of all time. They, much like the Italian band Doomsword, are criminally overlooked.

I'm just happy Mark has persevered all these years and continues to put out decent albums.

I'll give you a list of bands if you like. I believe Popoff wrote a book mentioning a lot of them. It was not only Manilla Road, their was bands all over the U.S. doing exactly what bands like Samson were doing.

ok you're on. I'll get this up as soon as I get a moment.
Off the top of my head Legend. There are very few NWOBHM bands that can even stand up to 'From the Fjorns'. And I would even say to some degree The Rods. Certainly would go with Justin's suggestion of TKO.
By 1978 America was focusing on more Slade / The Sweet influenced stuff but still there were "heavy metal" bands all over the US that were just not going to get the attention Britain was.
You and I also see that period differently too as we have disused before; you see that it begins and ends with the leaders of the movement where I on the other hand see that it went beyond Diamond Head and Angel Witck, though it was stretching in many cases.
Oh and 'Search for Sanity' is usually not the album being referred to when talking about Onslaught as a thrash band; the first two albums were almost like a different band.
