Metallica - My Apocalypse

I think it´s kinda cool, way thrashier than anything they´ve done in... a loong time! I agree some parts of the song are lame, but some riffs are really cool.

YESSS! An E to F# verse key change, fucking classic. haha.

It's not bad. Like has already been said it's, not quite ground-breaking or interesting as it potentially could be...

The Snare is too loud, which also highlights the lack of fills. And the fact that it's pretty much constant on the beat double time snares.

But thank fuck there's finally a new Metallica tune that's under 38 billion minutes long....

And Hetfield sounds good on the "cross that line" bits.

Seriously, another thread??

Can the mods put it all into one or something.

Yes their older stuff was good, but they really don't deserve a thread for every song on a forum that has nothing to do with them IMO.

/ rant

Why are people so fixated on the fact that newer Metallica songs are getting longer again, and have long intros? That's a characteristic of Metallica's music. It's something they are known for.

Here's why:

A lengthy shit song is worse than a shit song. Long songs are fine if they are interesting/well structured. But Cyanide was repetitive, and the other one was poorly structured. Metallica could write an album of 8-10minute long songs again, and I wouldn't complain in the slightest... if the quality was like that on MoP or AJFA. :)

Long songs are good if there's a point to them; take "...And Justice For All" which is one of my favourite Metallica songs, even with a fair amount of repetition. But it has killer riffs, interesting parts, and I'm not thinking THANK FUCK IT'S FINALLY OVER after 9:44. But St Anger was full of 8 minute long songs that are just REPEATED uninspired riffs/sections over and over again... to me that is boring, whether it's a "Metallica Trademark" or not.

Heavy guitars and Hetfield's distinctive voice are also characteristics of Metallica's music - but just because they exist in a song does not necessarily make the song any good.

PS Dan what's going on in your avatar? There are sleeves on that tshirt

c'mon you're letting me down, I thought you were an exclusive sleeveless onstage wearer

hahahaha! (I'm gonna venture into into gay territory here...) Basically, it's a medium tshirt. I like my shirts - but especially sleeveless' to be small shirts cos they look better across the shoulders when you chop off the sleeves. I have a medium Kreator and Sad But true sleeveless and they just don't look as good so I never wear them. Didn't want to risk ruining the testament shirt by de-sleeving it!

Infact I have just recently re-bought the ...And Justice For All shirt cos I managed to find it in small, whereas I only had it in medium before. Yes, I'm sad.
