MFN was closed by parent company BMG on Monday and all the staff were fired. I guess this means Opeth (and Anathema, etc) are technically without a label at the moment, though moving direct to BMG is no doubt an option.

Quite shocking news, but then MFN wasted a HUGE amount of money on no-hopers like Sugercoma and InMe.

Sugarcoma is possibly the worst band I've ever heard...I can't think of anyone more failing and subpar than them. But yeah, that sucks...I'm sure Opeth will get something worked out soon, they were on century media and peaceville no?

WTF ???? :err: :err:
anyway ...maybe that means that they're gonna be authorized now to release a version of Lamentations with Demon Of The Fall ? :OMG: :D :loco: :worship: :headbang: :hotjump: :Spin:
(i can't find the words to express how i would feel...so smilies are fine !!)

If they do go to a new label, hopefully they'll be able to get the rights or whatever is needed in order to include all older material for any dvd that would come in years to come!

Ahhhh, it doesn't quite work that way...... Unless of course they resinged to candlelight like someone suggseted. *foolishly holds his breath*

But what the fuck is going on with the music industry recently. First Quorthon and now this? There have been some other disturbing things of late which aren't quite coming to mind as well.

MFN pissed me off anyhow. They seemed to try to exert too much control over the band (i.e. Lamentations, the label having to be paid for Mikael to be in side projects.. etc).

I hope they sign to a smaller, more independant label who will treat them with more respect. They'd sell tonnes and make the label richer :p

I'm kinda glad MFN shut down (if they did, in fact, get shut down)... pretty shitty label... they do absolutely no promoting for anathema and then limit them to what they could do with their dvd just like they did with lamentations... fuck MFN!!!

This is what Blabbermouth has to say:
Legendary U.K. record label Music For Nations — current home of OPETH and ANATHEMA and past home of METALLICA, CRADLE OF FILTH, TESTAMENT and countless other metal bands — has officially closed its doors. The company's catalog — which has previously included titles from artists as varied as LOST HORIZON and FRANK ZAPPA — will be folded into parent company Zomba Records Group (the world's largest independent music group).

Launched in 1983 by Martin Hooker, Music For Nations established itself as a European leader in the rock and metal world, with early signings like METALLICA (who had three gold albums while on MFN), SLAYER and MEGADETH paving the way. As Music For Nations grew, the company expanded its operation to include not just licensed acts from the USA, but its own signings.

Umm disturbing stuff.... like Slayer supporting Slipknot? :erk:

hate to be extremely off topic here...but did anyone read the story on blabbermouth about taking back sunday playing when slayer was supposed to come on. they got shit thrown at them and some people got hurt. their tour manager recommended that they not go on for their own safety. lol...i thought that was grate.
