Mic Comparison: R92 - Trion7000 - Fat Head - R84

Here are mic comparisons in this order:

1. R92
2. Trion7000
3. Fat Head
4. R84

with these speakers:

1. V30
2. Greenback

The same reamp signal was sent for each clip.

No amp changes and no post EQ. Albeit, a bit of bottom end compression post tracking... the same for all.

Each mic was positioned 6.5 inches out from speaker rim aimed dead center.

Here are R92 and Trion7000 examples...

It's between the R92 and R84 for me, but I'm leaning towards the R92. Man, the clarity and punch difference between the AEAs and the others is nuts! The Fathead is behind the AEAs for me, with the Trion last.

I have collected a bunch of gtr DI clips and just scrounged thru them. I thought this clip had sufficient variety... so I haven't a clue as to the gtr or pickup.

I'm fairly partial to the R92 also. It's got a thick mid response that I like.

As I commented on netmusicians trion sounded the most ribbon. if ribbon will be the case. İt will give the best sound with an sm57 or a similar mic. But if one mic is the only choice than my choice will be r-84 . But there are better non ribbon mics for that sound.
