it's interesting that the xm8500 sounds decent compared to the other ones.

yep the xm500 stood on its own up against the shures, its 9 years old and still usable

The U87 has nice air and brings the vocal forward. The XM500 sounds like it would be a bit sibilant.

yeah i think U87 is streets ahead, what was interesting was the kid was 17 and did them all one after the other in one take, great tone for that age..

451 was my favourite. there sure is a lot of muddy low end in all those mics.. really small room?

Its tough to get a good read on the U87 vs. the others because the clip is so much louder than the other clips.

the room is a decent size, there was no testing it was "wack the mic stand up and get it done", everything was one take and took no more than 20mins so it wasnt a precise situation, it was just to get out of the road..

yeah its proximity to the U87 was similar to the other mics, I should have either had him back off or drop the volume, but I couldn't be bothered
