My friend just bought a Roland TD-20 Vdrum kit and wants to record midi data on his old Mac Powerbook G4 running Mac OS 10.2 and Cubase SE. What will he need to get the midi data from his V-drum kit out to the mac and vice versa for playback purposes? I've got a midi to USB cable, but this particular one only works for a PC. I know there are midi to USB boxes out there but is there any way around that on a mac? He's trying to keep it as cheap as possible.

I've had my eye on that for him, but he wants to know if there's a cheaper option out there. I don't think there is unfortunately.

That's hilarious. I was wondering the same thing. I think he thought that he was able to roll with this thing right out the box after buying it last week and he's just a little disappointed. Thanks for the help!

I use the Edirol UM-1ex for brain->mac connection when recording MIDI from the e-kit I have. Works perfectly.
