I know some of you guys are in bands who have played this disasterous festival in the past.
Anyone know what is going on with the fest this year?
I know tix are on sale, but nothing official has been released regarding the line-up.
I heard that Necrophagia are playing (which isn't really my thing).
Looks like I may have to take a pass this year.

I haven't heard a single word about it. If it is in fact going to happen this year, it's going to be a disaster because noone I know personally has heard anything about it, and that's not a good sign. Normally the fest takes place in late July or early August, so that's pretty soon y'know?

Yeah, it is the end of this month.
The last time I went was 2003. Good line-up, but of course horribly run.
Also, I remember going back in the 90's, they had wrestlers, porn stars, and a hell of a lot more merch booths.
In 03, there were only maybe 20 vendors at most.
It is a shame since it showed so much potential at one time.
So many bands made their first US appearances there too.

More Bands T.B.A.

I don't mean any disrespect to the bands on this bill, several of them I recognise and know and like, but many of them I've never heard of....which doesn't mean they're bad or anything, there might in fact be some very talented young bands on this bill. But the days when people would flock to a show to see hours and hours of unknown underground bands are past, I feel. I've seen many people complain in the past about "too many unknown bands" on Metalfest bills, and this time there's way more than before, so I have a feeling this is going to be a tough sell for Jack. Not to mention the lateness of announcing the lineup and such. Also gone are the days when people would plan to go to Metalfest even before they knew who was playing, just because it was such a special event. I wish Jack the best of luck with this, I think he's going to need it.

There was a time when playing Milwaukee Metalfest was an honor. You we're personally invited to play, and it was the greatest metal show in North America. Them he introduced the "pay-to-play" bands, and 100 out of 120 bands each bought $1000 worth of tickets to sell, and the headliners were STILL not paid fairly. After a couple years of bounced checks for the headliners, we are where we are now. These poor pay-to-play bands are still paying out huge amounts of cash to play this, there are no real headliners to speak of, and the vendors are few and far between. This fest either needs a total re-structuring or just needs to stop, because people no longer take it seriously. I'm actually shocked he got some of the bands he did.

Well like I said I'm certainly not trying to dissuade anyone from attending, because there are still some good bands on the bill and who knows what unknown bands might actually turn out to be worth hearing. I'm just saying that it's a pretty hard sell nowadays when so many of the acts don't have much drawing power.

This line-up is plain awful!
Sorry, but as a paying attendee of this fest for many years, I feel I have the right to speak my mind on it.
All I can say is I can see why Jack waited so long to announce the line-up.
If it was announced any earlier it would have hurt ticket sales.
This year, it makes sense that tickets went on sale BEFORE announcing the line-up.

This will be the first year since 1997 that I have not gone. Last year was just too much. The Modeskja is a rat hole in the barrio...the "second stage" was a tent in the parking lot, and the whole goddamn place almost burned down during Deeds of Flesh's set last year. :hotjump:

Some of the pay to play bands can be really good...last year, I was impressed by Skeleton Witch and Striknine...but most are really awful. After last year, I'm surprised even these type of bands are signing up. :err:

Such a shame. It was a great festival. A lot of the best gigs I've ever seen were at Metalfest. Venom...Death...Obituary...Exodus...Mercyful Fate. And the feeling of camaraderie was awesome, a real metal brotherhood.

Greedy ass promoter has trashed it all... :yuk:
