Miserably Ever After: The Official Sludge Thread

I wish they had more than one album to show. Dude just got the shit end of the stick for everything and its unfortunate. This was a pretty unique beast in doom/sludge.
 
Currently getting bulldozed by this classic. For 1992, this was another level of heavy and really still is. The decision to sequence the album as one track was wise as each song seamlessly flows into the next which actually gives the album a strange, hallucinatory calming feel, despite the albums potentially causing dust to drop from the ceiling. Dale Crover is beating the ever loving fuck out of his kit. The 11 minute opening experimental drone piece basically spawned an entire genre which, depending on how you view drone a good or bad thing, but the fact remains this albums influence is massive. Even more incredible is two tracks out of the 31 minute album are covers, yet the album sounds entirely original with the covers of Flipper's "Sacrifice" and Alice Cooper's "The Ballad of Dwight Frye" retaining the spirit of the original while fitting in with the albums dense wall of sound. The closing track "With Teeth" is a standout track in the Melvins' entire oeuvre. Still ear-rattling, but also melodious in a way is quite frankly, hypnotic and yet again, a sound that a number of bands would attempt to achieve. And they're still one of the most prolific and forward-thinking bands.

Members of Black Sheep Wall and Admiral Angry have come together and revive the brutal OUCH riffs of both bands earliest outputs into a band called ROWSDOWER. 3 piece sludge-core with batshit Dystopia-worship vocals and pummeling hammer riffs. Check this fucking shit out, I cant wait til the full release comes.

When I listened to In the Red, I thought everything was there except the songwriting. I think I'll go through their discography chronologically and re-visit In the Red last. Listening to The Trident now and really liking it. I suppose I should give Serpentine Path's second album a go as well.
 
The Unearthly Trance discography exploration continued earlier with Electrocution. Starts off incredibly strong, has a few bits in the middle that just seemed sorta "there" before picking up steam again for the last three tracks which are excellent. Some choice cuts:







This is proving to be a pretty rewarding venture so far. Three solid albums. Curious to see how the next two fare. If reviews are to be believed, their later stuff is Celtic Frost worship.
 
Currently listening to Post Mortem's last album, 2009's Message from the Dead. Originally meant to be their epic comeback, things got halted right away when vocalist John McCarthy died right before he was to record his vocal tracks. The music was done, so mainman John Alexander decided to do two things. The album proper features vocals by longtime fan of the band and Sigh frontman Mirai Kawashima and he sounds fucking disgusting. The CD has a few bonus tracks with songs featuring guest vocalists like Seth Putnam and the younger brother of McCarthy who sounds nearly identical and currently fronts Up Your Bucket who feature some Kilslug alum. Don't let the goofy album cover and song titles fool you.
