Mixing through a Finalizer (Nuendo)

So, I got a bunch of gear for a mix I'm doing this weekend and I was wondering if there was anything I should be aware of before putting the TC Finalizer on the master bus?

how do u finalise ur mix ?

i tried this experiment during in the box mixing and it's worked for me....i know a few people here will snigger or disagree vehemently but this is what i do :

1 ) mix track till i'm happy with all the tone

2) group all the tracks : guitars | bass | vox | Drums

3 ) increase levels on the group busses ^ : till they reach and peak about 8 - 9 Db on the mix buss meter fairly consistently

put a C4 : bypass the 3 higher bands and compress the lower bands to taste


5 ) put a limiter with 0 threshold and nothing on it


to me that' how i achieve the closes result to mixing and gettin the closest result to what i feel sounds the best

8-9db peak? why such a low peak?

+ 8 - 9 DB over 0db( unity gain ) on the final meter

i do about +8 to 9 as that is usually the amount of gain u get after mastering

so making it louder than 0db by 8db and limiting it with 0 threshold on the limiter = mastering within the mix

I see. I was envisioning something completely different. I thought you were talking about your peaks being -8dB to -9dB, which would be UNDER 0dB. =]
