So, there are different degrees of theft? Is stealing music more ethical than stealing physical items? To me theft is theft. No grey areas whatsoever.

No, theft is theft.
However, you can steal a pack of gum from a gum factory, and you can steal 20 bars of gold from a bank. Common sense tells me that one is worse than the other...
And I don't mean that music is equivalent to a pack of gum. All I mean is that some types of theft can cause more direct damage than others...

Ah. So, if an item is both physical and of a higher monetary value the crime is considered to be more severe. That said, is it more terrible for a thousand people to steal the same item than 2 or 3?

morally it is the same....but this thread isnt about the ethics of torrents and illegal downloads. It is about a place getting thier livelhood messed with. Why derail a thread about a business being hurt with your own flag waving cause. We can all sit here and type all day about what is and what isnt cool to steal and so on but you really should just drop it. This is not the thread for this discussion. This is about a studio that got gear and personal effects stolen and how they are going to have to rebuild now because of some scum bags. We all get your point....we have discussed it a million times on here...move on.

I'll end my involvement in this thread with one last statement. It is the epitome of hypocrisy to cry fowl over this theft if your hard drive has any unpaid music on it.

Beleive me, I know what you mean and what you are saying. I agree 100% but this is not the thread to try and spark a debate about it. This is about someones personal loss.

Actually, the losses are in the 100's of thousands of dollars. This is a terrible loss for Jim and Tom. People need to understand the magnitude of this.
If anyone is crying over ducks and geese here, I wouldn't describe that as hypocritical, just plain bizarre....

It's the epitome of hypocrisy to cry so hard about a non-related topic when there are far worse issues currently. Like I don't know... a nuclear reactor in Japan that if it explodes could wipe out the entire country. Doesn't mean it should be discussed in the thread. This isn't a theft thread, it's a thread about a specific theft.
