For me, it's Metallica, Draconian, Opeth, Orphaned Land, Wintersun, Gojira, Dark Fortress, Bloodbath, Dark Suns, Hollenthon, Anathema and probably a few more that I can't think of right now.

What was so fucking bad about it? It wasn't THAT huge of a departure from the sounds explored on Deliverance/Damnation and, arguably, Blackwater Park.

It WAS too! I nearly puked the first time I heard it, it was just awful, and filled with what sounds like a mish-mash of old ideas dragged out of a dusty drawer. GoP is the only half decent song, and even that is awfully lacklustre in comparison to tonnes of other Opeth songs. By far and large, GR is the least memorable of all Opeth albums. I absolutely abhore it.

Same, but GR is not as huge a piece of shit as some make it out to be, and it still confounds me as to why it attracts such utter hatred rather than just a small distaste.

No. It's their best album imo. I love all their shit but GR and BWP > all.

This is probably because I'm still living in the 70's.
