Yeah, another super-ghey list threah. Hooray. Inspired by a song I was listening to and a thread elsehwere.

So, let's have em. Songs that twist and distort your guts and make your heart wrench.

would be great to get samples in this thread ...

for me it would be some things off of Filosofem ... that's as downer as I get with music :loco:

lmfao @ moose's new avatar/title

most of the saddest/most depressing songs that come to my head right off the bat are mainly acoustic...nothing more personal than someone just picking up an acoustic guitar and play/sing his soul out.

then get these:

Blood and Time - At the Foot of the Garden
Scott Kelly - SPirit Bound Flesh
Steve Von Till - As the Crow Flies
Steve Von Till - If I Should Fall to the Field

but Mortifera's full length and Alcest's EP pull on the ol' heart strings

I'll try those. I might have heard one of them, I cant remember which Neurosis side-project I heard, which was a couple..just remember not digging it too much. Thought it was good but got boring after 10 minutes. Will check again.

Never heard Mortifera....I heard that Alcest EP once and seriously couldnt take it. I wanted to punch walls.

Portishead- Sour Times
Godspeed You! Black Emperor- Static
A silver Mt. Zion- God Bless Our Dead Marines
Mono- A thousand Paper Cranes
Tenhi- Varpuspaiva
Mr. Bungle- Pink Cigarette (lol)
Kaada (w/ patton)- Seule
Mogwai- Burn Girl Prom Queen
Mogwai- Travel Is Dangerous

this is hard:erk:

"Widow's Wall".

I must have listened to this (and the rest of the album) day in and out whilst reading The Time Travellers Wife. This song always reminds me of how that book ends for some reason. Not weepy because it's depressing but weepy in that "Field of Dreams" ending kinda way.

Some day I'll convince myself to listen to that album again. Its been since a week or two after I got it, can't make myself put it back on. It just left a bad taste in my mouth.

There are a few off the top of my head:

Cry cry cry - Cold Missouri Waters (a true story as well, which is what makes it such a downer)
The Cure - Maybe Someday
Smashing Pumpkins - To Forgive
This Mortal Coil (most of their songs ;) )
Clan Of Xymox - Stumble And Fall
Simon & Garfunkel - the Sound Of Silence
Akira Yamaoka - Theme Of Laura (not entirely sure why)
AMZ - 13 Angels

Some are probably more due to association than the songs themselves, perhaps. Still pretty depressing stuff :D

Belborn - Des Lebens mude
Current 93 - All the pretty little horses (reprise version w/ Nick Cave)
Worship - Whispering Gloom, Solicide and the Dawning of the Moonkult, etc.
Katatonia - Brave, etc.
Burzum - Det Som En Gang Var, Rundgang um die transzendentale Säule der Singularität, etc.
