I was really impressed with the new Skinless - Trample the weak, Hurdle the dead. What was your first impression?

The Intro to Overlord is extreme and very catchy while Spoils of the Sycophant has great riffage and an excellent vocal range (for Death). The album itself didnt completly WOW me though.

Anything you guys picked up or dled that just smashed your face in!? heh

Yes, that is what i'm looking for.

I thought the new Skinless was pretty good. It didn't blow me away but it was enjoyable.

Albums that have blown me away:
Nachtmystium - Instinct: Decay

My favorite CD of 06 and one of my favorites overall.

Devourment - 1.3.8

Not new, but it blew me away when I first heard it. You all will probably roll your eyes, but I love Devourment.

Bal-Sagoth - Battle Magic
Symphony X - V, Odyssey, DwoT
Mastodon - Leviathan

And countless others. I get stuck on something and listen to it over and over.

The most recent new cd that blew me away is Old Man's Child-Vermin.

I have to second Nachtmystium's new one. Their transformation from competent to spectacular has finally given them a face and sound to pull ahead of the USBM hordes.

Other than that, I think Akercocke's Words that go Unspoken, Deeds that go Undone was the last album that really flattened me. The kind of album I plan to be listening to for ages and calling a classic in ten years.

Primordial - The Gathering Wilderness ('05)
Stargazer - The Scream that Tore the Sky ('05)
Slough Feg - Atavism ('05)
Mournful Congregation - The Monad of Creation ('05)

Nothing from 2006 blew me away. More just a case of a few solid releases.

Ungodly - selftitled [ good blackened death metal from Brazil]
Xibalba - Ah Dzam Poop Ek [ blackmetal gem from Mexico]
Buried Beneath - The Last Rays Of The Moon [ kickass blackened death metal]

I don't find a lot of metal albums that **BLOW ME AWAY**, but Kataxu's "Hunger of Elements" was absolutely fucking brilliant. It restored my faith in modern black metal and got me listening to my other black metal albums more often.

Ironically, I still do not own it. :waah:

Good call friend!

My copy of the album is due to arrive any day now... order your's from Supernal.

As for the latest album to blow me away...

:hypno: stop liking all the same bands as me!

I'm sure Warning - Watching From a Distance will blow me away, because I've been listening to just one track for the album for months, and it never ceases to amaze me.

The latest Runemagick album blew me away, due to it's left field approach to droning death/doom.

These girls (Gallhammer) blew me away with "Gloomy Lights."
