Time for another quick movie review:
Fanboys
Yup, it's another road trip movie; except you can't help but think that this is
Detroit Rock City rewritten for
Star Wars fans. The movie takes place in 1998, when a group of
Star Wars geeks decide to drive all the way from Ohio to George Lucas' home in Northern California in an attempt to obtain
Episode I: The Phantom Menace six months before it hits theaters. And on their way, they go piss off some
Star Trek fans in the process.
The film has its moments, but for the most part, the comedy is forced and repetitive - especially at scenes that directly parody
Star Wars films. You also have numerous cameo appearances by people who have been in at least one
Star Wars film - namely Carrie Fisher (who was Princess Leia), Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian) and Ray Park (Darth Maul). Oddly enough, Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hammill, is nowhere to be found.
Also making cameo appearances are Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith. Unfortunately, they're not Jay & Silent Bob on this one. And then there's William Shatner, who just happens to be in the movie.
If you're not a
Star Wars fan, skip
Fanboys. Otherwise, it sure beats Hayden Christensen's horrible acting that nearly destroyed Episodes II and III.
Oh yeah, and if you're a Rush fan, rent the film.
