Went to see "The Hobbit" last night at the IMAX 3D in Sofia. I've had mixed feelings, to begin with, and though it turned out better than I expected, I still am not thrilled the way I was with LOTR.
I am far from a Tolkien purist - I am a fan and would accept some artistic freedom, but at some points they have gone a bit too far. The annoying thing about The Hobbit is that it is very obvious how they decided to add some side stories, which, IMHO, don't contribute in any way to the main plot, so they can extend a 250 p kiddies book, which was meant to be two films, into three movies, three hours long each. Not to mention the absolute bullshit towards the end.
On the technical side - I don't know if the technology in the movie house is a bit old, but in the fast moving scenes everything was quite blurry and that was annoying. Also - in other scenes - you get a huge Gandalf (so huge you can see the hairs in his nose), for example, and a great green smudge, instead of The Shire. - I have always liked LOTR also because of the great backgrounds.

All in all - not bad, but could have been better.

why seeing movie when ending is in three years from now, or two sux anyway, like with LOTR

i saw Premium Rush few nights ago i liked it proly cause of speed on bicycles with no breaks :)

Thought the Hobbit was good, overall. The children in front of me got really restless during the long slow section in the middle when the party got to Rivendell. Think many of the action sequences were too long as well, but I think those minutes were included to justify paying extra for 3D.

Most distracting thing for me, though was when they re-used locations from LOTR to stand in for other parts of Middle Earth. I kept thinking that they were far too North to be going through Rohan and the Rohan/Gondor border.

Also, it's sad that none of the Dwarves seems capable of sharpening a sword. ;)

LOL maybe a Finnish knife would serve:

"Django Unchained" - the "D" is silent. Not bad, however too long, imho. Started off pretty well and then it started dragging. Otherwise it's the typical Tarantino movie. It has some brilliant moments and some brilliant lines and is brilliantly politically incorrect with all the white people calling the black people "my pals". I wonder how come Tarantino's script didn't get the Mark Twain treatment and "my pals" wasn't replaced with "slave" :heh:

Fully agreed.

(Of course a movie with Judi Dench and Scotland in it wouldn't even need Daniel Craig to lure me into the theater...)

Last one I saw was Life of Pi - the end was a bit weird but the rest quite impressive. Tonight it's Intouchables, something different for a change. Next in line presumably Anna Karenina, Beasts of the Southern Wild and perhaps Juoppohullun päiväkirja.

Beasts of the Southern Wild

I absolutely hated this film. Still feel bad about wasting 90 minutes of my life watching it. The only good thing about it was the little girl in the lead role.

Daniel Craig is by far my favourite Bond. Not just because he looks oh so good, but because he's a rather human and realistic Bond, unlike the previous lot. Or at least Brosnan and his outlandish stuff. Towards the end of Skyfall I was seriously asking myself if Bond will survive the helicopter attack.
But I'd say Skyfall is the best in the series with Craig so far, though I thought that Casino Royale cannot be surpassed. I am glad they proved me wrong. :worship:

OK, thanks for the warning! The trailer looked promising and the HS review was very favorable, but if you say it sucks I think we'll opt for Juoppohullu instead. At least it's about familiar subjects and environments.

Exactly, and he doesn't even need a car full of gadgets to deal with the bad guys. :D I missed CR and thought Quantum was neither bad nor spectacular, but Skyfall is an absolute winner.

Well, yeah. I had high expectations and was absolutely let down. - Bad script, poor camera work, tons of stereotypes and exceptionally misleading synopsis... All in all - artsy-fartsy shit as an end in itself. I really don't get it how it got so many awards and is even nominated for an Oscar. I have the odd feeling that everyone who praises it so much are fools, pretending to be smarter than they really are.

If I want to see an arthouse film, next time I'd choose something European. And I will stop reading reviews.

Strange Days - I was so mindblown by this film back in the day that the video tape was long overdue at the rental shop, 'cause I had to watch it over and over. I haven't seen it in probably 15 years and I had some misgivings about watching it again, but it turned out it is still this great film and doesn't look or sound not at all funny or outdated. - A classic, I guess.
The soundtrack is killer, too. I still have the CD I got from a record store at Times Square in NYC. Don't remember the name, but was right next to a Hard Rock Cafe.

Lincoln Vampire hunter, was last new movie i saw, and it watchble nothing special, next will be Lincoln i think :)

Never heard of that film. Sounds like something I'd like. Well, on to-watch list.

As for films I've actually watched, last one was Seven Samurai. I was thinking of going through Kurosawa's works more - sadly, turned out I don't really have time for that right now, but it's definitely a plan.
As for the film - it's really a classic piece of art. I'm not sure if I should write anything more but something as cheesy as "be sure to watch it before you die".

Agreed, except her performance wasn't even remotely noteworthy. Somehow she got an oscar nod for best actress(?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!) as well. I personally prefer movies that have a "plot", and aren't just about "characters".

For the record, I only saw Beasts of the Southern Wild because it was a part of this Best Picture MOvie marathon at my local theater.
