Peter Jackson's interested in making a film version of the Hobbit. He already has the blessing of the Tolkien estate, they just need to sort out the movie right. Ian McKellen has already said he'd play Gandalf.

I read that book in 1983 as Freshman in High School. I don't remeber the whole but I remember reading the chapter with the spiders good stuff.

Hobbit seems like a child story compared to LOTR, however, there are a lot of elements in there to make it darker: spiders, 5 armies, the dragon..
