MP3 from new The Chasm album available for download

I think Deathcult has magnificent production, extremely fitting in virtually every sense, adds density and subtlety when required, highlights areas of contrast, etc etc. Conjuration is certainly more accessible, and easily more striking, but isn't quite on the same level. I think if I bought Deathcult now it wouldn't take me anywhere near as long for it to hit me, but this was a while back when my tastes were different.

The funny thing is that Daniel Corchado has said he doesn't like black metal, and that he'd rerecord the old albums given the time and money.

Strange, on The Chasm's message board he's stated the EXACT opposite. He's said that he hates the idea of re-releasing albums, and re-producing them, because it ruins the feeling that goes with the original release.(I'm paraphrasing here, but I can look up the quote if need be, I'm sure)

That interview certainly suggests differently. The interviewer suggests the idea of re-recording their older albums and Dan seems fairly positive about the idea.

Obviously if he's said different on the boards he's changed his mind though.

EDIT: A link to that post would be interesting to read too.

EDIT 2: This is the actual quote I'm referring to(DC is obviously Daniel):

DC: Yeah. So we didn't want to go and do the whole album, probably ending with a fucking really shitty production.

CoC: In the end, it's hard to get 'round to doing re-recordings because they are probably never gonna sell -- and you don't wanna let it get in the way of doing new music.

DC: Exactly.

CoC: But in theory, if at some point you don't feel like writing anything and you have the money to go to a recording studio, it would be interesting to hear it.

DC: Yeah, yeah, yeah!

I could be misreading that, but it seemed pretty clear when I first saw it.
From what I've heard the guy is pretty good at contradicting himself so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

"Deathcul"t has plenty fitting production overall but the guitar sound is very muddy in the low end which makes the overall clarity worse than it probably should have been with riffs of that complexity level. It's one of them things you notice when you start getting into recording/producing/mixing. :p

^ Yeah, I know nothing about that stuff. Your observations regarding the production of Opeth's Morningrise was the first impression that told me you know your production and mixing stuff. That thread was cool.

Ah, I see. Well, I checked out the thread, and my memory turned out to be a bit inaccurate. Essentially, he's considering re-releasing the first three, but only on vinyl, and doesn't really like the idea...oh to hell with it. Check it out here

Funny, I must be the only one here who enjoys Procession to the Infraworld more so than Conjuration of the Spectral Empire and Deathcult For Eternity: The Triumph. Though those other 2 albums are still great.

Procession is a sluggish work that falls in line far moreso with regular death metal. Conjuration was an excellent release, though simpler than their masterpiece, Deathcult for Eternity.

I much prefer Conjuration over any of them, but I do like Procession and From the Lost Years more than Deathcult.

Procreation is a good release, but the production is certainly lacking.
