The weirder the better.

For example, I associate Failure with drinking, since I listened to one of their albums a bunch the first time I got wasted. Coldplay and NINs new stuff remind me of surgery and internal organ failure. Which is actually a pretty appropriate connection, I suppose.

I associate the Tool album Aenima with playing the game Rush 2049 on Nintendo 64, because I was playing that game the first time I listened to the album.

And I associate the Turisas album The Varangian Way with Cambridge, England, because I bought the album there. It became the soundtrack for my "conquests."

A Perfect Circle - Mer De Noms - friend dying.

SYL - Alien - Canadian rockies

Porcupine Tree - Fear of a Blank Planet - love

Spite Extreme Wing - Magnificat - being really drunk/happy

Pantera reminds me of gym class, but only Cowboys. To Mega Therion reminds me of eating cheese with crackers.

Listening to Seance's Saltrubbed Eyes definitely leaves me with a strong salty aftertaste.Something about the way in which the bassy fuzzy sound converges with those harsh vocals, I guess.

Magma's Udu Wudu(title track) brings to mind the Ethiopian weddings that are held every so often in our neighborhood.
Slayer's South of Heaven always reminds me of Doom.

Metallica - The Call of kthulu always feels like I'm in a blizzard, but that's to be expected.

Also, Emperor - ITNE makes me feel like I'm soaring over desolate wastelands and misty mountains while black armies march across the land or some shit but again, that's to be expected.

'smash' by the offspring reminds me of playing theme hospital

'rust in peace' reminds me of playing the amstrad game 'oh mummy!' haha

anathema's 'fine day to exit' reminds me of crete

elend's 'the umbersun' reminds me strongly strongly strongly of steven erikson novels, in fact they're almost totally inseparable and i think that's why i love elend as much as i do.

a recently formed one is adramelch reminding me of glen cook novels

'det som en gang var' reminds me of a particular map on unreal tournament (i forget the name) because just after playing it i heard that song for the first time and it totally blew me away

i guess there's loads really, my mind forms these associations very quickly and strongly (esp. in cases like elend when they're almost born for each other)

BTW i would say that all the albums we love/hate have strong associations for us because that's the definition (or at least the cause) of love/hate, that's why i'm only posting stuff that isn't obvious or has little to do with the actual album content.

London After Midnight - "Psycho Magnet"
Reminds me of going to goth/industrial clubs.

Theatres des Vampires - "Bloody Lunatic Asylum"
Beautiful moments wandering around at night listening to that album, on my discman! It's my favourite album, but it's also got some negative associations as well.

Rammstein - "Mutter"
Playing Unreal Tournament in autumn/Halloween a few years back.

Hecate Enthroned - early albums
Reminds me of listening to Cradle of Filth. lulz :p

I'm sure I've got tons more...

dredg - Catch Without Arms I tend to associate with my insecurities and failures to deal with life as best as I should haha.

Every time I hear old Children of Bodom (Hatebreeder, Follow the Reaper) it reminds me of eating spinach dip on pumpernickel bread (cause I was eating this fairly strong tasting appetizer when I first heard Bodom).

Dredg's El Cielo reminds me of the beauty possible in life. It is uplifting, proud, hopeful.

Most of Yann Tiersen's work, for me, is strongly associated with childhood nostalgia (young love, innocence, carefree times, etc.) and, much like dredg, hope for the present and the future.

I love Yann Tiersen so much. His music makes me think of love and driving, because I always listen to it in the car when I see my boyfriend and there's a 2-hour drive to his place from the airport.

i associate sugar goin down swinging with my first deployment to al udeid. i heard it everyday on the bus to work.

even though they aint great, i like that song, because i had a great time there
~gR~

I tend to spin Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk and Instinct: Decay when very drunk.

Xasthur for translating Latin.

Pentagram for washing dishes.

Having an internal organ fail blows. I can't even explain the feeling and how it feels to deal with it. A lot of times would rather just not be alive.
