I am listening to this interview now, and I'm happy to hear Dave say that he has every intention of touring here again before putting Megadeth to rest. I hope like fuck that he does, as I don't want to miss seeing one of my fav bands.
I was soooooo pissed off I missed them last time, I was a couple of months under 18, the same with the Priest show which was kind of around the same time, so I am REALLY hard to catch 'Deth while I still can, and Priest as well.
Al Pitrelli is one of my favourite guitarists he is unreal. And Jimmy is an amazing drummer. You know you have quality musos when you use ex-Alice Cooper guys. And Megadeth ain't quite the same without Ellefson....
All just stood there live, and while he can most certainly play, he wasnt a metal guitarist at all, Glen Drover IS, plus Jimmy will be great im sure as it would be pretty exciting to be in a band of Megadeths calibre after being in Sgt. Jons Lonely Hearts Club Band, and Nick Menza is better than Jimmy Degrasso (who is also a great drummer of course). It will be way better this time
And how is Al Pitrelli not a metal guitarist? Look at his career - Alice Cooper during his "hair metal" era, Megadeth, Savatage, Widowmaker with Dee Snider. The only non-metal band he has played in is Asia which was for one tour & live album which I have heard and he plays '80s metal solos in their songs!
Even Al Pitrelli himself says he isnt a metal guitarist. Hair metal is hard rock by the way, as are Savatage and all the other bands he played with pretty much.
Glen Drover played in King Diamond and Eidolon, plus he is already a huge Megadeth fan, the new lineup will be way better. Al looked like he was falling asleep sometimes when I saw Deth play (but he absolutely nailed all the guitar playing so I didnt care )
Well Al Pitrelli on "Alice Trashes The World" is one of the most awe-inspiring performances I've seen, he is great. And his guitar style is 100% metal. He does flashy '80s shred soloing for god's sake! What other kind of music has that!?
And its pretty stupid to draw any kind of line between hard rock & metal. Categories & genres suck, they have the same elements & the same fans so why even divide them.
It's all the same scene though. They all appeared in Metal Edge and on Headbangers Ball lol. My point is just that because he was in the more hard rock edged bands than the metal edged bands, doesn't make him not a metal guitarist when his guitar style is totally metal.
My point is that Glen Drover is going to be WAY better in Megadeth than Al ever was.
Al Pitrelli is a hard rock guitarist, not a metal one. He even said himself he is far more interested in Jazz and blues than metal. Just because he played in one heavy metal band (and nailed everything, im not disputing that) doesnt make him a metal guitarist. It makes him a session guitarist really.
CC DeVille played the "Uncle Tom's Cabin" solo and somebody else wrote the "Sometimes She Cries" solo (and maybe played that one) but otherwise its all them.
