ugh. i don't know how people can afford to live in california. my friend just had his "baby's momma" (his words) move in with him to his parent's house, and i was going to rag on him but then thought "well shit, he makes $9 an hour, you can't even get a shitty apartment on that kind of cash." well, maybe he could if he didn't just blow $45k on a car right before getting his girlfriend pregnant. haha! :Spin:

i know rents are cheap pretty much everywhere outside metropolitan areas of any country.

my friend, lived in Barcelona and was paying 300 Euros for a room ... now he moved further down the Spanish coast and has a 3 bedroom apartment for the same money.

its the downfall of living in metropolises ... but shit ... there is more crap to do
the girl I am seeing now is just moving to the upper East side of Manhattan in probably something similar size joint as Erik ... $1350 a month ... but that area is sually double that price normally ... so she actually got lucky ... plus she is walking distance from Central Park ... and general yuppiness

right, 3 years ago i lived with 3 other dudes. the one dude bought the house for probably $125k in a quiet and pretty okay area near the local university (uc riverside), we paid around $350 including utilities, rent, cable, whatever and that was a damn good deal. mind you, this was before the huge housing spike my area has seen. that house is probably worth triple what he paid for it and he could charge $600 per room if he wanted.

minimum wage hasn't gone up in 5 years, it's still at $6.75 / hour. you simply CANNOT FUNCTION on such piss wages, and a lot of people don't have the advantages of education, skill, or flat out brainpower for anything but fast food and retail jobs.

btw, i pay $900 a month for my apartment, which isn't considered too steep anymore. that includes water, everything else (trash, electricity, gas, etc.) is up to me. oh but not cable, i refuse to pay for television so i don't have that shit.

yes, well in TX you can get a house for about 120K (or at least I think that is what J paid for his) ... here, you cannot even buy a 1 bedroom apartment for that.

for a shit house in a shit neighborhood my mortgage would be around $1500, if i was lucky. i have no choice but to rent right now, houses in the ghetto start near $300k.

i read an article a few days ago, over 20% of california home owners spend 50% of their income on mortgage alone. WTF!!! if this housing bubble bursts those people are so fucked, which is why i didn't get a house.

CNN Money and Forbes listed the area I live in the #2 are in the country where the shit will hit the fan the earliest ... there was some major speculation buying going on here in the last few years.
