One workaround for the CRT monitor thing is to just turn around in the chair when you record your tracks. Your body blocks out most (if not all) of the interference and you can get out the rest with a noise reduction plugin pretty easily if you have to.

There's usually an angle facing away from the monitor (not always 180 degrees) that works the best. You just have to fish around for it a bit.

Oh, and you can also get interference from the CPU tower if you get too close. I don't use active pickups, so that might be a non-issue for you EMG folks.

But yeah, an LCD monitor makes life much better all the way around. You'll have a lot of extra desk space you have after making the switch if nothing else.
