Ok i have 2 studio project B1 (older ones with no pad) and when i use for overheads i have my volume down all the way on digi002 preamps and my overheads will clip if drummer plays hard enough. Which is usually every drummer i record. Now last band i recorded I lifted up overheads as high as i could to save from clipping as much as i could but this sacrifices my sound quite a bit on overheads. Now is it ok if I clip just a bit from stock preamps on my digi002 into protools? I don't have any pads on mic pre's and I'm about to start tracking another band tomorrow and am a bit worried.

Any advice guys??????

can you trim the input on the channel?

if not try putting the Mic's four feet in front of the kit about waist high

Nope just a volume and thats at 0

not sure how big there room is but i was told its pretty small so that might not be an option unfortunately.

Now you can put 4 feet in font of kit and waste high to capture cymbals good still? and should i roll with the spaced pair like that if possible in there room even if my Mic's end up near a wall?

get some inline pads...

Yea i plan too but I'm broke right now and were also starting tracking tomorrow before guitar store opens. Was just hoping there was a trick of the trade to get around this. I think its retarded all condensers don't have a pad switch and preamps for that mater. Its honestly almost impossible to use these Mic's on anything remotely loud. Vocals even clip with these Mic's.

doesnt the digi002 have phantom power, i think it does, turn it off!:p..or steal a pair of NT5s from somewhere and use those..besides you shouldnt be using dynamic mics for overheads..if it is clipping on vox then check to see your phantom power and also make sure your gain is WAY down and double check the mic, sometimes they have low cuts and things like that which effect the sound alot ..but what do i know:p..i am working on assumption here..but like the other guys say, move the mice away from the cymbals, i personally use tall stands and have them 4-6 feet above the cymbals and point them on axis..it all depends..experiment!

Um... I don't know about you, but I've never gotten sound from a condensor mic by turning phantom power off.

aha, i was referring to the fact that a dynamic mic might be being used and there for if phantom power is on it can make the mic super sensitive..:p
i can be vague at times

Um.....i dont think he's using a dynamic mic.....he's using a condencer and with that mic turning off the phantom power is not an option...but that is besides the point.......there should be no reason why you're clipping unless you have too much gain. really on ovverheads you dont have to have them loud .....just enough to get the sound. but on that note, i know some of you will murder me on this but i bought the Samson drumkit 8 and for you guys on a budget...these fuckers are great.....just make sure you dont use the snare mic on snare still use a 57. but the C01s on overheads are nice.

yea my digi002 mic pre's only go down to 15db and thats at zero on the knob. At least thats what i get from manual and my condenser Mic's are very sensitive when its all the way down still with drums.

Well i took some advice and ran with overheads spaced out in front of kit about 3-4 feet away from kit and probably 4-5 feet off the ground and 6 feet apart from eachother. It was about a 6 foot triangle with snare to each Mic and it honestly sounded great. I was surprised and it was much nicer sound than trying to raise way way up in the air over drum kit.

Thanks guys:headbang:

dude, post some sound clips of those b1's as overheads.
I've got one and would like to see what two as overheads would sound like. I've used mine as a room mic before and got kind of a sweet bonhamish type of roomy sound, but the highs are really really sharp on that mic.
