My three favorites guitar riffs. What dou you think about them?

I think you picked one of the better Symphony X riffs. There's also a great one in Rediscovery pt. 2 about 1/4 of the way into the song.

Personally, I think that even if I were to pick a top 20 for metal riffs, they would still all be Opeth riffs.

I'd go with:
1. Opeth - The Funeral Portrait (chorus riff)
2. Opeth - Karma (the riff leading up the ending scream)
3. Opeth - Demon of the Fall (the intro riff)

how coincident, I just listened to Extension of the Wish by Andromeda. Damn, what a solid release, every track smokes!

my top 3:

1. Metallica - Enter Sandman
2. Opeth - Blackwater Park (all riffs)
3. Symphony X - Divine Wings (the prophet cries etc.)

That one in Karma rocks too.

1. Led Zeppelin - Black Dog (I could fill a whole list with Zep riffs)
2. Symphony X - Evolution (DAHDAH-dugga-DANAH-dugga-DADAH-duggadugga-DADAHDADAH-dugga-DADAH-dugga-DANAH-dugga-SQUEEEE)
...Damn, that is pretty fun.
3. Rhapsody - Dawn of Victory

best riffs ever is a very hard call!! i agree with Technetium that Opeth riffs are great and also with Luis about Inferno and The Words Unspoken, but I cant go for best EVER only what I really dig personally, and these would be (in no particular order):

Opeth - Deliverance
Opeth - Moonlapse Vertigo (possibly my fav in opeth riffs)
Edguy - Mysteria ( just in the guitar solo from about 3:56 - 4:16..that kills me for some reason)
Symphony X - Inferno
Symphony X - Absence Of Light
Andromeda - The Words Unspoken (it is excellent i have to admit)


maybe I'm getting riffs in solos wrong if they might not count, i dont know but who cares.

Rediscovery Pt 2, Just that fat heavy riff, I could listen to that all day long and still love it.

Technical Difficulties Intro by Racer X, always loved that.

Tons of Dimebag riffs.

Early Metallica stuff, Creeping Death etc.

Ultra Violence by Joe Stump, great heavy riffs with blazing neo classical soloing... the breakdown in the song rules also.

Opeth - the Night and Silent Water, ahh too many to list.. just about everything Blackwater Park and earlier
Necrophagist - Culinary Hyperversity
Psycroptic - Colour of Sleep

I agree with Serge - there's no way in hell I could sit here for a reasonable amount of time and limit my choices to a Top 3. Maybe a Top 3 SymX riffs or a Top 3 Dio riffs (there are plenty more than just Holy Diver - how about the opening to Don't Talk To Strangers?) or a Top 3 BANDNAMEHERE riffs, but a Top 3 overall would fry my brain. And probably get me fired since I'd be sitting here at my desk forsaking my work for the next 12 days to think about what my three favorite riffs are. It would be endless...
