Napalmrecords already posted a teaser so I thought I'd link you to it.

was a hell of a salvage job...tracks and DI were distorted to fuckery and back...

zero overdubs....wouldn't have been able to match the sound of the overdubs to the fucked up DIs anyway :(

thanks..drums were the easiest actually, they were miced alright and the drummer was really tight.
bass and guits gave me the biggest headache.....and the really weird micing of the audience

Nice work Lasse. I think you did a great job of balancing the way most modern live dvd's are uber clean, but retaining the live-ness of an actual show.

thanks...
yeah, I don't think overdubs etc would match Alestorm's vibe, it was important for me not to change anything about the performance (despite some minor and major fuckups ;) ). this way, when people buy the DVD, they get exactly the same performance they saw when they attended the actual show.

gives them the "yeah, I was at that gig" feeling I think.

and believe me, there are some fucked up things on that DVD, lol....incl Gavin playing half a song on a blow-up rubber guitar, haha or in the middle of this one when the drummer accidently inverts the beat and the look on everyone's faces is like "FUCK!"....
haha, I remember when that happend (I was at the helm live) I was not sure at all if the drummer would notice his mistake before the next part comes and the whole band would have been thrown out of the groove ;)

Very cool, but how hard was this singer to track? He sounds like he has absolutely zero sense of timing!

well....on the album I did some fixing here and there to get the vox to groove with the beat a bit...
Chris is one of the best musicians I've worked with though..really good keyboarder and an incredible songwriter IMO...he'd just sit down and write a new song in like 10 minutes, he's such a creative person it's incredible.

the band became much tighter now also...I've just been to a gig recently and was really surprised how tight and professional they've become....

I hope there'll be another live-DVD next year with a better performance and, most important, better quality track-material.

Haha, that gig was fucking stress...you don't really have a soundcheck in Wacken for every band and I also wanted to make sure that the company that recorded the tracks (from the splitter/stagebox on stage) captured the DIs (well, didn't really work out in the end, lol), so I was on stage talking to them and organising stuff, setting up the amps, checking mic-positions etc just 2 mins before the show started...
forced my way through the crowd (well, actually ran/jumped over the bar/desks at the side of the audience area...weird looks, haha) and made it to the (digital, uurgh) desk within those two minutes...made it there just in time.....

5 mins after the gig I was twatted off my skull to get the level of adrenaline down and enjoy Wacken, lol.

this show started at 20:00 (just before maiden) so I had an entire day (well almost....until 20:45 or something ;)) without any alcohol...in wacken!!:kickass:

really nice sound for that live performance lasse, as has been said before, a nice warm bottomy sound still capturing the audioence well aswell! did you replace all of the drums?

thanks.

the drums were actually well tuned and sounded alright, I did some replacement/augmenting though to get rid of some of the bleed...
it was important for me to get as much audience as possible in there, so I had more than enough bleed already anyway so I gated the drums really tight and augmented them.
kick is replaced to get a steady beat though......wouldn't have worked if the drummer wasn't as good as he was

I did lots of automation...live and on the DVD...
I did some fader riding for reverb and delay etc on guits and vox live (as you can hear in the very beginning of this vid for example when chris says "tavern wench" and lots of automation on the audience mics etc on the DVD

I am shiting myself over the rest of this DVD... I was having a bad gig! couldn't hear anything and numerous trips to the monitor guys only made my request of "Drums and keys ONLY in my montior" some how turn into "I want backing vocals!"
