NAD: I was just nomming when all of a sudden...

No no! I use my presence pushed in, generally around 4. I definitely love how it sounds, I also use a TS in front just to give it that bit more saturated sound and aggression *high level etc*. And it sounds great. But the Mark IV never will sound AS squishy so to speak as like a 5150 because it's just not voiced that way!

That being said, I'll post a clip asap :)

My gain settings are pretty high (3:30) but even at that level it's still wickedly useable, and about as gainy as my overdriven recto used to sound. But yeah it just never stops being tight, which is a quality that I instantly fell in love with due to it making all the hard rhythm parts in our songs easier to play.

To be fair I didn't spend much of my time in Mark IV mode, in fact I spent the least time there. I found the "Extreme" mode to be lacking a bit of gain as you said, and a "chore" to play exactly as you said. I found myself digging my pick in even more than usual and it was never enough, even with EMG 707 pickups!

Maybe it's time to revisit the Mark V, because I loved the cleans and mid gain sounds as well. If the Mark V can truly do it all, then it is a rare beast for sure.

I was the same, went fanging straight for extreme mode thinking that's where I'd find the brootz, and to my dismay got the kind of dryness that normally only goes away with a TS. It was only when I was being a dick and trying to get a Petrucci tone with MarkIV mode that I realised "Just a minute, this grinds way harder than extreme mode" and off I went from there. Pushed lows and highs in the EQ to get it sounding a bit more hi fi left the 240 and 750 sliders flat (so as to keep the mid range spectrum nice and even) and whammo I was right where I wanted to be.

Welcome to the club. I love my mark v. The crunch ch is totally awesome though. Don't discount it. Also the mark ii mode really cleans things up. You don't have your reverb sends all turned down at the back do you?

Nah I dimed them all to make sure, no dice.

The crunch channel is cool but it doesn't really have the girth to be my main rhythm channel. We're doing a Maiden covers gig at the end of the year so I'll probably use it for that.
