Traded my Peavey Windsor for this today, really liking it so far!

Recorded a cover of Killswitch's End Of Heartache to give it a test run, didn't have lots of time so excuse some of the sloppy playing.

Let me know your thoughts people.

WTF??? I thought you had the JCA20H already? Did you trade/sell it?

The JCA50H has a lot more balls to it and sounds closer to the SLO. I am using a Carl Martin Plexitone pedal with my JCA20H and that really makes the 20W amp come to life.

Will listen to the track from the 50H tonight.

Still got the 20H, that's getting used as the home amp really. To be honest the 20 and 50 have different preamp stages so they sound quite different. Plus the 50 has the seperate crunch/od channels. Think I might get into modding the amp to get an even bigger range of tones from it.

Cheers guys, I think this is one of the best clips I've done so I'm quite pleased with it. Nice to be making some progress with guitars as I've always found them the hardest part of a recording to get right.

Still had to do a bit of post eq tinkering with the low mids as there seems to be a bit of resonance/build up down around 2-300hz, those low mids always kill me come mix time.

Dude that clip sounds fantastic!!! Yeah the 20 and 50 are different beasts for sure. I would do the mods - def worth it. Check these out.

I'll get some clips up of my modded 20H soon.

Jesus, the clip sounds GREAT. Some guy on Harmony Central wanted to trade me his JCA100 for my 5150, I might do it now. I really like the flavor of the mids on this amp, very apparent without being honky.

Yeah been having a read through that thread the last couple of days, I'm definitely going to do one of the clean mods, probably the depth mod aswell. Want to make sure anything I do is adjustable/switchable as I really like the sound of the amp stock to be honest.

The only thing that bugs me about that thread is that there's little to no description of what some of the mods actually do. Wtf is a "sucker punch" for example?

Haha... yeah I said "WTF is a super sucker punch" as well when I saw it!!! Bottom line is that it adds a little bottom end and tightens it up. Most of the changes are subtle - resistors and caps that eliminate that brittle/ice pick high end tone - smooths everything out. I think you could do as little or as many mods as you want and it would help. I took mine to a local amp tech that works on vintage heads mostly. I went through the changes I wanted, incl the super sucker punch and he made of bunch of other recommendations.
That clean mod will def give you more headroom. I recommend the depth mod regardless if you do the others - not sure about the 50H but with the 20H, there was that lack of bottom end depth IMO and this mod fixes that. I don't run the depth pot full but more like 12 o'clock and that adds the right amount of bottom end.
I didn't add the saturation switch, though I have still thought about doing it. That would add a gain stage to the 20H but it would have to be tight as a nuns' arse to make it worthwhile, much like what Fortin mods are.

O.O Sexy toanz. Diggin this more than the original recording lol! More ambience, and a clearer midrange character that's a LOT more pleasing to me.

Great sounds!! I really love my JCA20, and when I see Thomann sells the JCA50 with FX loop and 2 chanels for only 322 euro's.... damn, that's f@$%^king tempting!
