NAD! Jet City JCA50!

Heads up for those who are thinking of one of these to use with impulses. The fx loop on this amp comes before the eq, so in order for the eq to have any effect you have to take your signal from the speaker output, using a DI box that's capable of handling speaker level signals and hooking up your cab/load box to the link output on the DI.

Trev - I spoke to Owen about this on FB.. but I'm really GASing hard for a new smaller wattage head. Got my eyes on Jet City and since you've both picked one up I'm sensing good things!

I've got a TSL100H, so a 50 watter isn't *that* much smaller - but I want to have a contrasting more 'american' tone than the british grit I get out of the TSL.

Would the Jet City sit alongside a marshall, or are they fairly similar?

I wouldn't say it's all that Marshally sounding, 6L6's and based on Soldano design I really feel it's got it's own sound. Not as scooped as a Recto, not as honky as a 6505, and nothing like a Marshall which I find to be a more fuzzy kinda sound. Mind you I've not played a Marshall for a few years now (really gas'ing for a JVM though!)

finally got around to listening to the clip, and fuck...that thing sounds so damned good. definitely consider it another addition to the GAS list...

Bought a 100H, had a wee reamp sesh today.

Had to run on low volume but I think it came out alright, maybe a wee bit overly biting in the presence region but I'll take that over too fizzy.

I got myself the JCA100HDM last week... but I have to say my reamps sound like crap when listening to yours and Trev's... must be doing something wrong... :(

Dude throw up a clip and your signal chain and we'll try and help.

these songs are jet city 50w through orange closed back 2x12

Sounds great man, nice to know it can do a good punk pop tone too! Was that the crunch or the overdrive channel?

DeclanWhite : great tone !
I'm also intersted in knowing a bit more the chain you used (guitar, boost, amp channel, cab, mic... etc).

Here is a quick try I did with my JCA50H, used in silent recording configuration :
TEST JET CITY 0624 Mix1 MASTER.mp3

The chain was :
Maxon OD808 > JCA50H > 8 Ω output 1 > Tone Hound, to take the load.
______________________ 8 Ω output 2 > U5 Speaker In > Portico 5012 > Fireface400 Line In > DAW

My strings are old as fuck and I'm a sloppy guitar player.

Cab/miking :
Torpedo PI-101 WoS plugin with :
- MesaOS + SM57
- a touch of Diezel Cab + M160, to bring back some meat.

Pic of my claustrophobic setup :

I found out my mike position was way off.... so here are a few clips from my JCA100hdm. I used the Narcosyntesis recording from Jaymz and reamped 2 tracks (one L and one R).

Signal chain:
TS9 -> JCA100hdm -> Marshall 1936 2x12" cab with V30 and T75 speaker (I miked the V30) -> SM57 -> Focusrite Green II pre - Protools.

Used EQ on both channels with a LP@70 Hz and a HP@10 kHz and some cuts around 350 Hz, 750 Hz, 3,7 kHz and 6,2 kHz. Also a small bump at 130 Hz.

MP3's @ 320 kbps:

What do you think?

those thomann prices are REALLY tempting.

is the channel bleed thing an issue with all the 100w heads, or was it just a faulty one? and does it also affect the 50w version?

The 100w version sounds a bit meatier, and sounds good.
But both are great !
The 100w head can be switched into 50w ?

Just been messing around with mine on the clean channel and i'm only noticing the bleed when i have the gain on the overdrive channel up full. Not a problem for me as I find the gain at 12 o clock is plenty for me.

Actually quite a nice clean tone to be had out of these things. Really looking forward to seeing what it's like once it's modded.

If you have the gain on the overdrive channel up very high a little bit of the overdrive sound bleeds into the clean channel. I'm not really having an issue with it though.

So you mean that when playing on the clean channel, you'll hear a bit of distorded sound from the OD channel ?
Not of a problem for me as it will be a studio amp, but I understand it can be disturbing for live use (according to the level of the bleed and your OD channel settings).

does anyone have issues with the fx loop and fx stomp boxes btw?
seems like the fx loop is running at line level and some effects just can't handle that....i've got a boss DD7 that i use for leads and clean sounds, maybe anyone with a 50w/100w JC and a boss delay can check if it works properly? :)
