I've had this lying around for a week or two but only got around to fixing it the other day.
All I'm going to say is that it's reputation is well deserved!
The thing is absolutely monstrous.

Chain is: Bc Rich Warlock II (Super Distortion in the bridge) --> AMP --> Vader 2x12 -- > SM57 (on axis a couple of centimeters from the grill) -- Saffire Pro 24

No processing at all.

Sloppy playing (for serious) and I haven't changed my strings since Christmas, but hopefully you get an idea of what the thing is capable of.

:headbang:

would be pretty interested how it sounds with a ts in front and new strings, could sound really tight and sick
this way, at least that's the way I imagine it :D

I highly suggest tossing that Vader cabinet out of the chain and getting something with either a K100 or Vintage 30 in there, and the VH140C will REALLY open up. It doesn't need a TS at all either. Also, dial back the bass, although that could be attributed to the cab you're using. Vaders are typically awful for recording, except sometimes with modern Peaveys.

+1

Yeah as I've been told, but it is literally half the price of a Mesa 2x12.

The bass does need to come down part of that woofiness is down to my room.
The low end on this amp is retarded though, that clip was recorded with it set to 3.

There's plenty of other Vintage 30/K100 loaded cabinets out there. If Mesa is expensive in England, look at some other brands. I think I kept the lows around ~2 using 7-strings with EMGs and Vader cabinets for band use for awhile. I was never content with the VH140C on recording though.

Sounds like the Vader suits this tone pretty well, actually... Stock speakers?

Yep.

Ok, just chucked some new strings on the old gitfiddle and recorded a quick clip using a TS for those interested!

First one is completely raw, second is a quick mix, third is the same but quad tracked and flex-timed to the correct speed, but there you go!

did you try the AcmerBarGig Headcase plugin? There's an Ampeg VH140, sounds cool, but due to not owning
a real one it's hard to tell how close it gets, but it sounds pretty nice for this kind of style.

Not tried that amp-sim but I might now just to see how accurate it is.

You can probably pick one up from craigslist for dirt cheap, assuming you're from the States?

Hell yeah!

1. Gorguts - Stiff and Cold
2. Suffocation - Effigy of the Forgotten
3. Morbid Angel - Nothing but Fear

What do I win? :D

Nice work dude! That amp sounds great, I gotta get myself one of those!
My favorite albums from all three of those bands, incidentally. Well, I guess I prefer Erosion over Considered Dead, so Considered would be my second favorite Gorguts album... but still!
